‘How To Get Away With Murder’ 4×05 Review: I Love Her

Sometimes you need to learn more about the past to understand the present. Sometimes it’s the old wounds that shape you in who you are today.

In Annalise and Bonnie’s case, it’s when their dark past clashes into the current day where we really get a feel of their twisted yet disturbing co-dependent relationship that’ve had all along.

This season on How To Get Away With Murder, Bonnie just seems so fed up. I get where she’s coming from with all her actions thus far this season. But what’s sad is that even when she’s trying to hurt Annalise by doing all these things and sabotaging Annalise’s career, Bonnie is also hurting herself.

When seeing the first time Annalise and Bonnie met, you could see how Annalise wanted to take her in like a wounded bird. She’s been broken so many times and Annalise wanted to fix it.

Going back to the present day, as Bonnie runs to Isaac’s office, Bonnie admits that she ‘loves her’. While repeatedly saying that, you can see how she genuinely feels about Annalise and how heartbroken she’s been with Annalise tossing her to the side.

There relationship hasn’t been easy from the start. It started off with something you don’t usually think would happen to you on a regular day.

However, Bonnie turning on Annalise this season has been compelling. Bonnie knows her tricks and it’s like she’s been checking stuff from her list. But Bonnie loves Annalise, it’s a known fact but her admitting it now shows how much she does.

What was the most surprising part of the episode was when Isaac put two and two together and found out Bonnie, who was going by the name Julie was talking about Annalise this whole time.

Good thinking there, Isaac. His facial reaction was priceless. I wonder what this means for his sessions with Annalise.

Annalise’ “I still got it” dance was cute, but you know damn well happiness doesn’t last long on this show. With a matter of moments it was Bonnie that started playing the game on her.

Annalise’s character this season is better. She’s really trying to rebuild herself but it isn’t always easy. Her bringing on Connor to help her out was an interesting touch even after she let them all go.

Connor, please get your ish together homeboy!

Meanwhile, Frank questions Laurel if he’s actually the father of her unborn baby.

Uh-oh. It got me guessing and it has me curious. If it is Frank’s this whole time and she’s been passing it as Wes’ baby, well, then I’ll be hating Laurel even MORE than I already do.

Other thoughts:

  • Powerful acting goes to Liza Weil this week on her portray of Bonnie. What a raw performance.
  • Asher is feeling so sensitive lately about Michaela. I wonder when they’re going to fill him in on the loop. And Connor. And Annalise. Pretty much the rest that deserve to know about Wes’ death. IT’S BUGGING ME.
  • What’s Nate up to? He’s kind of uninteresting this season, I keep forgetting that he’s still on the show.
