When we last saw Poison Ivy on Gotham, she had just taken some mysterious herbs that started morphing her face. When we next see Poison Ivy, the transformation will be complete; Gotham’s producers have recast the role, with Peyton List taking over from Maggie Geha.
It’s the second time the role has been recast. Clare Foley was the original Ivy, a young orphan. The character was aged up in Season 4, to be played by Geha.
In a written statement announcing the change, the producers tease a darker Ivy, saying, “In the continuing evolution of Poison Ivy’s origin story, Ivy Pepper has been transformed once again taking another step toward becoming the Ivy we know from the comics. Dangerous. A live wire of crazy energy. She’ll set her sights on Gotham, intent on making the city her own green paradise.”
The statement makes no mention of Geha, and as of this writing there has been no statement from her about the move. There have been some angry reactions on Twitter. “THERE WAS ZERO REASON TO DO THIS,” wrote one fan. “Are U joking?” wrote another.
I let you pass on Clare. Okay? I understood it because you wanted an older Ivy. But Maggie was perfect. There was ZERO REASON TO DO THIS.

Other fans were more welcoming. “She deserves a chance. I’m sure she’ll be fabulous,” wrote one.

Maggie Geha herself tweeted her good luck to List, offering no more details.

List most recently played the lead role of Rami Sullivan in CW’s Frequency, one of our favorite shows of 2016. She is no stranger to the DCTV universe, having played Lisa Snart, AKA the Golden Glider, on The Flash.
Could her new role allow her time to return as a guest star on The Flash? We’ll see. List is set to debut as Poison Ivy in early 2018.
Gotham airs Thursday nights at 8/7 Central on FOX.
