The Good Doctor is coming back!
ABC has given an early season 2 renewal to the medical drama starting Freddie Highmore, something that should come as no surprise, since the show is ABC’s most watched freshman show in years.
The news was announced by the show’s social media, with this tweet:

In The Good Doctor “Freddie Highmore plays Shaun Murphy, a young surgeon with autism and savant syndrome, who relocates from a quiet country life to join a prestigious hospital’s surgical unit. Alone in the world and unable to personally connect with those around him, Shaun uses his extraordinary medical gifts to save lives and challenge the skepticism of his colleagues.”
David Shore is writer/executive producer along with EPs Daniel Dae Kim, David Kim and Sebastian Lee. The show’s cast also includes Nicholas Gonzalez, Antonia Thomas, Chuku Modu, Beau Garrett, Irene Keng, Hill Harper, Richard Schiff and Tamlyn Tomita.
The show has, to date, averaged 10 million total viewers and a 1.8 demo rating, making it ABC’s most watched and second highest-rated program.
The Good Doctor is currently on hiatus, and it’s set to return Monday, March 11 at 10/9c.
