Texans DE J.J. Watt to Pay for Funerals of Victims in Santa Fe High School Shooting

In a world where school shootings and other tragedies become something that we expect, the world could use a lot more people like Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt.
Watt will be covering the funeral expenses of the victims in the Santa Fe High School shooting, the team confirmed to ESPN.
Ten people were killed and 10 more wounded on Friday when a 17-year-old opened fire in Santa Fe High School, about 30 miles outside of Houston. The 17-year-old has been detained and charged with capital murder. A second person is also in custody.
Watt, like most of our country, was once again outraged. But not surprised. Given that we live in a world where we’re waiting for the next school shooting knowing that the previous one won’t be the last.

Nine students and one teacher’s aide were killed in the shooting. Watt has offered to pay for all of their funerals.
This isn’t the first time Watt has used his celebrity and wealth to help those in his community in instances of tragedy. Watt helped raise over $37 million for the victims of Hurricane Harvey last September.
The Texans released the following statement:
“On behalf of the Texans organization, we are saddened by the tragic events at Sante Fe High School this morning and extend our thoughts and heartfelt condolences to the victims, their families and all those affected. We are grateful for the brave first responders, law enforcement officials and medical personnel. The Texans family will continue to pray for our neighbors.”
