Winter is not heading to San Diego Comic Con.
HBO is skipping the convention altogether, which means no Game of Thrones, and of course, no Westworld.
THR first reported on the news, and this statement, from HBO: “Due to production schedules and air dates for Game of Thrones and Westworld, these series will not be presented at San Diego Comic-Con this summer,” reps for HBO said in a statement Thursday. “HBO has a longstanding relationship with SDCC, and we are very grateful for the fans’ enthusiastic response over the years. We look forward to returning in the future.”
Game of Thrones doesn’t return till sometime in 2019 and Westworld will be wrapping up it’s season on June 24th, before San Diego Comic Con, so the news seems logical, though fans had still been expecting both series because Westworld was present last year despite wrapping up it’s season before the convention, and Game of Thrones has never missed a San Diego Comic Con.
THR also reports that HBO also won’t have any offsite activations.
So, what does that leave for Hall H and endless lines? We have to remember that Marvel is also skipping SDCC this year, since they have very little in the way of news they want to announce before Avengers 4.
Either way, we will be at SDCC to report what does make it to the con and Hall H. Hopefully, something exciting is coming our way, even without these SDCC mainstays.
San Diego Comic Con will take place from July 18th to July 22nd, 2018.
