#FGxSDCC: The Amazon Prime Video Experience

San Diego Comic Con is here! Wednesday was Preview Night at the Convention Center, but I made a quick detour to The Amazon Prime Video Experience to be immersed into the Worlds of the Amazon Original Series’ The Boys, The Expanse and Carnival Row.

The Amazon Prime Video Experience was outside the Convention Center, taking up a block for a 40-foot tower adorned with giant LED screens that played scenes from The Boys, Carnival Row, and The Expanse. Press was invited on Wednesday, but Comic Con attendees are allowed to partake in show-specific performances taking place atop the multi-level tower.

Carnival Row

Inside the experience, you’re greeted by a check-in, a Carl’s Jr. truck to the right, and immediately facing a Carnival Row immersive experience. Inside, you’re taken into a marketplace themed from the show, complete with actors in costume – human police and creature market sellers. They interact with you, staying on brand with the show. You are then taken inside a secret hiding spot, which turns into a speak-easy type of bar , filled with creatures.

There is a stage inside, where performers sing and dance. Meanwhile, you are spoken to while the performers are on stage. The humans then bust inside, breaking up the show. They’re looking for a fugitive (which I assume is the main plot of the show), and when they can’t find who they were looking for, they break up the club goers.

It’s a surreal experience, and you’re transported within the show. It’s amazing the amount of detail that Amazon put into this experience. There was a bit of a wait, but it was well worth it.

About Carnival Row: Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne star in Carnival Row, a Victorian fantasy world filled with mythological immigrant creatures. Feared by humans, they are forbidden to live, love, or fly with freedom. But even in darkness, hope lives, as a human detective and a faerie rekindle a dangerous affair. The city’s uneasy peace collapses when a string of murders reveals a monster no one could imagine.

Carnival Row will be available on Amazon Prime Video on August 30, 2019.

The Boys

The Boys wasn’t a show that I heard of, but being in the Amazon Prime Video Experience, I quickly found out that in this world, superheroes are influential and in a position of power. Most of them abuse their powers and aren’t a group that people look up to.

In this experience, you are brought into a tech store with a left from a crash. There were two actors interacting with the audience. Together, we looked for clues, physically looking around the store for a trail of details to solve the power.

It was fun, and much more interactive than Carnival Row, but I think that’s how it was meant to be. In the end, we got a cool enamel pin that said “F**K SUPES!”

About The Boys: THE BOYS is an irreverent take on what happens when superheroes, who are as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians and as revered as Gods, abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good. It’s the powerless against the super powerful as The Boys embark on a heroic quest to expose the truth about “The Seven,” and their formidable Vought backing.

The Boys will be available on Amazon Prime Video on July 26, 2019.

The Expanse

I didn’t have time left to go through The Expanse because this seemed popular. From the barricade, it looked like such an intense experience. The set looked amazing from the small bits that I saw. I’ll probably go back to the experience sometime this week and give it a try.

About The Expanse: In season 3, as the Rocinante crew digs deeper into the search for Prax’s missing daughter, the war between Earth and Mars turns deadly in ways the solar system has never seen. But a new threat in the outer reaches of the Belt could prove much more dangerous, threatening to test the very future of humanity.

Season 3 of The Expanse is out now on Amazon Prime Video.
