The sixth installment to the Terminator series will arrive in theaters on November 1, but we got some new information to tide us over from SDCC!
We already know that Terminator: Dark Fate is a direct sequel to T2 and we are supposed to pretend Rise of the Machines, Salvation, and Genisys never happened. I’m alright with that but I do have some particular things in mind to make this movie a great Terminator film, for me anyway. I’m going to share my wishlist and with it comes some tidbits we learned recently.
Check out the awesome behind the scenes footage the team released during SDCC first!
And then let’s dive into my Terminator wishlist!
I want the T-800 ‘Carl’ to live
I have only gotten my wish on this one once during Genisys and from what I have read and heard it doesn’t seem likely. But, a girl can dream! It just makes me so sad to watch Arnold Schwarzenegger’s character die or be terminated. Cameron and Miller have both called this movie a passing of the torch from the original characters and Sarah Connor promises to kill Carl after he helps them. I’m really excited to see how he is alive at all since the model in T2 was melted.
I want Sarah Connor to find peace
I want the reason behind Dani being a target to be new
From the footage and press releases, we know Dani (Natalia Reyes) is being hunted by Gabriel Luna’s Terminator which is called a Rev-9. I am really intrigued to learn why she is the target but I’m also hopeful that the reason will be different and something none of the films has even touched on. Grace (Mackenzie Davis) is a human/terminator hybrid so maybe they want to do that to Dani. It would be really dissatisfying to find out she’s going to be the mother of a new savior though because that would be a repeat.
I want Edward Furlong’s involvement to be meaningful
At SDCC, it was revealed that Edward Furlong (who played John Connor in T2) would be reprising his role in Dark Fate. There are so many ways this can be done wrong that it makes it hard to even put it on my wishlist because it will most likely be a throwaway cameo just for the die-hard fans. I’m not being particular about the length of his time on screen but the punch it packs. It needs to mean something to the entire plot, or at least a good portion of it, or it wasn’t worth bringing him back.
So, what do you hope to see in the new Terminator? Share your own wishlist in the comments or on social media!
