‘Chicago PD’ 7×09 Review: “Absolution”

It’s that dreaded time if the year again: fall finale time. Where the fate of our favorite characters hang in the balance and we have to wait weeks for the shows to make their return. Unfortunately, this fall finale of Chicago PD did just that. The fate of out beloved Jay Halstead lies in the balance, and I just need to know if he’s okay. Jay’s good heart needing absolution may have gotten the best of him this time.

Jay Better Be Okay

Please, for the love of God, let Jay be okay! Not to be dramatic, but it would literally be the worst move ever if the writers kill Jay off the show. He is a fan favorite, and it’s not hard to see why. His character brings a lot to the show and, if I’m being completely honest, is part of what makes Chicago PD as successful as it is. And let’s be real, he’s not too bad on the eyes, either!

I can’t believe Angela shot him! I get that she was mad at him for being the reason her husband was killed, but he felt bad about that and was trying to make it up to her. Despite the fact that he was looking for absolution to make himself feel less guilty about what happened, he was also just doing what he thought was the right thing to do. He literally trying to save her life! Yeah he made a big mistake, but he didn’t deserve to get shot over it.

I’m not gonna lie, I was pretty upset with Jay when he told Angela that he was a cop and the reason Marcus West was killed. Seriously, what made him think that was a good idea? Clearly she wasn’t going to be okay with it. What woman would? Jay sometimes lets his emotions get the best of him, which is part of why I love him. He cares so much and is a great partner to Hailey. I don’t know what I’ll do if he doesn’t survive.

Hailey To The Rescue

I love how worried Hailey was about Jay this episode. There is no doubt that those two care about each other. Hailey was not about to lose Jay. She clearly felt bad that she didn’t tell Voight about Jay’s situation earlier. She probably feels that Jay wouldn’t be in this situation if she had just told Voight the truth when she had the chance.

Hailey Upton is a badass. She will not let anybody stand in her way when it comes to protecting her unit, especially Jay. The way she almost took out that suspect without hesitation clearly shows how much she cars about him. She clearly deserves partner of the year. Jay owes his life to Hailey. If he survives, that is. I loved Linstead, but I gotta admit that Upstead makes a pretty great team.

I love how much Upstead’s relationship has grown this season. Their partnership is probably one of my favorites on the show. Those two have such chemistry and they really understand each other. Linstead was great, but there’s something about Upstead that I just can’t help but love. I can’t wait to see what the future and the rest of this season holds for Upstead.

Burzek Baby Talk

I love how supportive Adam is being of Kim. Although he was shocked at first and was even skeptical about being the father, he has really stepped up his game. Him telling her he’ll support her no matter what she decides was the cutest thing. Motherhood and pregnancy can’t be easy, especially when you’re in the line of work that they are. Kim definitely needs support right now, and I love that Adam is giving it to her. He’s been there for Kim before, but now’s the time when she really needs him and I think he senses that and is willing to do whatever she needs him to do. Those two make a pretty good team.

I’ll admit, I wasn’t the biggest fan of Burzek in the beginning seasons. I’m still not a huge fan of them now. However, those two are gonna make great parents.  Kim is so good with kids. I can only imagine how she’ll be with her own. Kim is so compassionate and understanding, which is part of what is gonna make her such a great mom. She is probably gonna look so cute with a baby bump, too! And I gotta say,  Adam with a kid will be the cutest thing. Needless to say, I can’t wait for more of this Burzek baby story-line. It’s something many Chicago PD fans have been wanting for a long time, and it’s finally happening.

Stand Out Scene

A huge scene and a major turning point in this episode what when Hailey tells Voight that the woman Jay has been having contact with, Angela, is Marcus West’s wife. Now I don’t know of you all remember, but Marcus West is the one that Jay had locked up after he was convinced he killed those two little boys a couple episodes ago. Marcus dies in lockup, and Jay never forgave himself after learning he was innocent. That being said, learning that Jay has been contacting his wife was a huge deal.

It really doesn’t surprise me that Jay wanted to help out Angela. Jay has such a good heart and will do pretty much anything to right a wrong. He especially get affected by cases involving little kids, so it should be no surprise that Jay wanted to help out Marcus West’s son. I love Jay’s kind heart. We need more people like Jay Halstead.

Best Lines

Jay: I’m a cop. That’s how I met Marcus. I arrested him

Adam: We’re gonna find him. You know that, right? We’re gonna find him

Hailey: You better hope to God he’s still alive
