‘Chicago PD’ 7×10 Review: “Mercy”

It’s been a long six weeks wondering whether or not Jay would survive to see the rest of the season, and in Chicago Pd‘s “Mercy,” we finally get an answer. Now, I’ll be the first to admit that I was a little worried he might not make it. I mean let’s face it, it wouldn’t be the first time PD killed off a beloved character (RIP Alvin Olinsky).

But one things for sure, we can probably all learn a thing or two from Jay Halstead about mercy.

Long Live Jay Halstead!

Looks like Jay Halstead will live to see another day. He definitely is a fighter, both on and off duty. I love how the whole unit rallied around him, and they are were so worried and protective of him. The Intelligence Unit really is like a family, and family looks out for one another. And of course Hailey didn’t leave the hospital until she kknew he was okay. But leave it to Voight to flat out ask Will if Jay was gonna be okay. The look on Will’s face though when Voight asked him that was heartbreaking. Jay is the only family Will has left. I don’t think Will could have taken it of he didn’t survive.

And honestly, I don’t know if I could have either.

The fact that Jay was able to overlook the fact that Angela nearly killed him and ask the unit to show her mercy just shows what kind of person Jay is. He is a completely selfless person, who is always looking out for others. He would lay down his life for Will or anyone in the unit and not think twice about it. Not many other people could say they want to show mercy to the person who just shot them. I know I couldn’t. We all need someone like Jay Halstead in our lives.

Burgess Makes A Decision

I’ll admit that I’m not the biggest fan of Burzek. I like them better as friends than as a couple. However, them talking about becoming parents and Adam being so supportive of Kim is super cute. And I’m glad Kim decided to keep the baby. I think they both will make amazing parents, it’s nice to see Kim get more of a lead story line instead of always being in the shadows. She at least deserves that.

However, I’m a little worried about how this story line is gonna play out. It’s been good so far, but it seems like we can never have nice things in the One Chicago Universe, especially when it comes to the ships. Plus, I don’t think Kim is gonna appreciate having to sit out on the sidelines instead of getting in on the action once she’s farther along in her pregnancy. I’m just worried this Burzek baby story line is gonna be too good to be true. But I’m just gonna enjoy the story line while I can.

Stand Out Scene

I loved the scene between Hailey and Vanessa while waiting for news on Jay. She has only been with the unit and roommates with Hailey for a little while now, and she can already tell that Hailey is in love with Jay. She completely calls Hailey out on it and I am totally her for it. It’s about time somebody said something about the chemistry between those two.

Everybody can see it but them. It’s time one of them acknowledges it.

I was totally ready to hear Hailey say ‘I love you’ as Jay was leaving Med, but instead it got interrupted by a phone call and all I got was ‘never mind’. I think Jay was ready to hear her say it too, but I guess we’ll never know. Maybe now Jay will take it upon himself to make the first move.

Brotherly Love

Atwater’s brother Jordan is back in Chicago, and I’m not so sure that’s a good thing. While Atwater has mentioned that he missed his brother and that he wished they didn’t have to leave, it doesn’t seem like Jordan is hanging out with the best crowd. I mean, Atwater did find him while he was doing an undercover mission with Vanessa. The whole Jordan situation was pretty crazy. I can’t believe Jordan tried to cover up the fact that his girlfriend killed someone! Perhaps Jordan should have listened to Kevin when he told him to say out of Chicago.

I admire how loyal Kevin is to his family. He looked out for Jordan and tried to help him get out of the mess he got involved in while trying to clean up his girlfriend’s crime. He always tried to set a good example for his siblings, and I think he did a pretty good job. It can’t be easy raising your two younger siblings on your own, and overall I think Jordan is a good kid who got caught up with the wrong crowd. Anyone would be lucky to have a brother like Kevin Atwater.

Best Lines

Vanessa: It’s hard because you love him

Hailey: Of course I love him. He’s my partner

Voight: If Halstead dies, you’re gonna wish you never lived

Hailey: I can’t figure him out. He’s the first one through the door, a war vet, and he’d rather take a bullet than get a flu shot

Burgess: Yes, I’m having the baby

Angela: You can’t silence me. People are gonna know what that cop did to my husband. This whole damn city’s gonna know
