FEELS OF THE WEEK – January 19th to January 25th

Welcome to another Sunday of talking about the shows & movies that made us laugh, cry, go awww and, of course, look around and wonder what in the world was happening. If it made us feel things, whether they were good, or bad, then this is where we talk about it. This is where you tell us if you agree. This is where we let it all out.

So, without further ado, here are these week’s picks:

Badass Female Character of the Week

Lizzie: Eleanor Shellstrop, The Good Place. It’s weird how Eleanor, the less heroic of our main leads, if possible, has become the hero of this show, over and over again. And it didn’t start out because Eleanor was a good person, no, it started out because she tried, and kept trying, and isn’t that a huge lesson for life?

Lariel: I am torn between Mia and the Canaries on Arrow! I really enjoyed this week’s backdoor pilot and all three of the leads.

Jessica: Katherine on A Million Little Things.  The way she continues to love and protect her family continues to amaze me especially since her family now includes a baby which isn’t biologically hers.  And she’s trying to be civil towards Delilah, which pretty much makes her a saint.

Gillian: I’m going to go with George on Nancy Drew this week. I’ve really grown to like her and her fight to keep the Claw open broke my heart. She has so much going on and seems to feel like no one is on her side, which made this whole situation even worse. But she still tried and it worked!

Charles: My pick is the same as Lariel’s : Mia Queen, Laurel Lance and Dinah Drake on Arrow. Even though it had it’s rough spots, I thought the episode was good and I would like to see more of this trio together in the future.

Jasmine: Olivia from All American. After the racial profiling incident at the frozen yogurt shop, she decided to make something good out of it by starting a Social justice podcast. I love that she realized it was time to step out of the Beverly Hills bubble and acknowledge that there are real problems of racism she hasn’t really been seeing happening in other places.

OTP of the Week

Jessica: Olivia and Asher, All American.  I love that they’re together and happy.  At least for now. And Dillon wanting to “fight” Asher for Olivia was so adorable.

Lizzie: Eleanor and Chidi, The Good Place. They got that happy ending! Right? Right? They did? The show isn’t going to take it away from me at the last moment, right? Riiiiiiiight?

Jasmine: Beth and Randall on This is Us. Watching the flashbacks of them in college and her being a support system for him by staying with him when he was having nightmares was so touching.

Moment that made you collapse into a puddle of FEELS

Julie: The entire film of 1917 is stressful yet amazing to watch. Lead actor George MacKay takes you on a journey of feels for two hours, and it is an absolute shame that he was not nominated for an Oscar. If I had to choose one moment that slayed my poor heart the most, it would probably be his scene in the end with Richard Madden where they discuss the fate of Tom. It was so gut-wrenching, I’m still feeling the pain days later.

Lizzie: The moment when Emilio stood up for Beto in Party of Five. I swear my heart grew three sizes, because it was such a hard episode, so filled with microaggressions, and then overt racism, and I get Emilio thinking he had to put up with it cause money, but …this felt right. We aren’t the problem, the racists are. And we can only get through it together, as a community, and as a family.

Lariel: Brainy breaking up with Nia on Supergirl. I know he’s got a “greater good” reason, but poor Nia!

Jessica: Basically every scene involving Nic on The Resident, but especially after Conrad comes home and pulls her into his arms.  This whole episode was gut wrenching with Nic’s father’s depression, but I’m glad she was able to get through to him, and Conrad was there at the end for her.

Jasmine: Watching Randall talk to the intruder on This is Us, had me holding my breath. I was terrified for him. Also, everything after that was so hard to watch.  He was trying to hold it together for his family as much as he could. The moment he finally broke down in the bathroom was heartbreaking.

Quote of the Week

Gillian: “This one time I boxed a bear.” -Archie, Riverdale

Lizzie: Lucia: It’s hard to explain. It’s not about not wanting to spend time with you. It’s about not wanting to be mommy. I don’t want to be good at the things she’s good at, because what if it’s all that I’m good at? – Party of Five

Jessica: “I appreciate the love, man.  Hey, if you ever decide to come back, your jersey with the captain’s patch will be waiting for you.” – Asher Adams to Spencer James, All American

Naomi:  “I love you Landon. I love that you can’t take a punch. I love that you won today using your brain and not brawn, and I love that you’re always trying to be better. But, um, I don’t want you to be the hero. The hero’s never the one that’s left standing. I’m not gonna train you to fight with me anymore. Not if the monsters are back”- Hope, Legacies

Charles: “The dreams are lovely. It’s the waking up that I’m starting to resent.” – Jean-Luc Picard , Star Trek: Picard

Jasmine: “Me being a musician is just a symptom of my creative sickness.”- Halsey, during her Apple music interview with Zane Lowe on YouTube.

WTF Moment of the Week

Emily: I don’t watch all that much television (or even episodic things on netflix), but I live for youtube. One of my absolute favorite channels is Good Mythical Morning, with Rhett & Link. They’re hilarious and odd, but this week there were two uploads on their Mythical Kitchen channel. I love Josh, their Mythical Chef, and this week he made (and gave out) the recipe for In n Out Mac & Cheese. I will be making an approximation of it as soon as possible!

Lizzie: The ending for Sunday’s Batwoman where, after catching bad sister, good sister apparently showed up and they both exist in the same world because Crisis and OMFG WHAAAT. I was feeling a bit like Kate at that reveal. But hey, I’ll give it to them, this is going to make for some good storytelling.

Lariel: I’m with Lizzie here. To be honest, I’d started getting a little bored with Batwoman. It was feeling a little too much like “Alice’s crazy stunt of the week.” But that ending was fantastic and has me interested once again.

Jessica: The ending to A Million Little Things where we see that Eric doesn’t have any scars.  So obviously he didn’t have a heart transplant and doesn’t have Maggie’s brother’s heart, right?  I always thought there was something off about him, but why is he lying about this? I’m interested to see where this story goes.

Gillian: Throwing another one in for Batwoman! Wow! I did not expect the “real” Beth to show up even though, yeah, Crisis threw everything for a loop. I can’t wait to see what happens next. (Also, yes to that A Million Little Things ending as well! WTF JASON RITTER?!)

Jasmine: Episode 10 of You on Netflix. Seriously, What. The. Fuck?.
