These past couple episodes of Chicago PD have put the women of the intelligence unit in the spotlight, and Chicago PD 7X14, titled “Center Mass” is no exception. They’ve given us episodes that have focused on their female characters, and I’ve loved it. It’s about time the women get some recognition. This week it was Vanessa Rojas’ turn to be front and center.
Vanessa Rojas: A Badass With a Heart of Gold
Vanessa Rojas has a way with people. She knows how to get through to them and get them to trust her. She did an amazing job with Sammy this episode. I was very impressed with how well she handled him and knew how to talk to him to get him to trust her. Her background and growing up on the streets really helped intelligence out in this case.
I love that we are getting more of Vanessa’s background. She always came off as a badass, but now we know that she’s a badass with a heart of gold. I wasn’t the biggest fan of Rojas in the beginning, but I’m beginning to like her more and more each episode, the more we get to know about her. I think she’s a great addition to intelligence, and even though I miss Antonio, Rojas is a pretty good replacement.
A Tough Time For Burzek
I get that Adam and Kim are both pretty emotional right now and have many thoughts going through their head after Kim’s miscarriage, but they need to work things out together. I hate that Kim pushes Adam away every time things get complicated. Adam is there for her and always has been. She just needs to learn to let him in.
I love how Voight checked up on Adam and Kim and how he knew exactly how to comfort both of them. He knew that Adam needs comforting words, and Kim needs people not to walk on eggshells around her. He even triend giving her a case to focus on and told her she could come back to work when she’s ready. Voight knows his unit, and I love that. I just hope that everyone rallies around them and that Kim’s miscarriage only brings Burzek closer together.
We Love Hailey Upton
I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again: I love Hailey Upton. She was really there for Rojas this episode. The growth their friendship has had this season is incredible. Hailey went from wondering if Vanessa was right for the job to telling her to trust her instincts this episode.
Hailey has been supportive of Vanessa pretty much since day one. She let Vanessa room with her when she found out she didn’t have a place to stay, and she definitely had her back this episode. She always has her friend’s backs, and we love that about her. Hailey Upton is the kind of friend we all want and need.
Stand Out Scene
The scene when Vanessa shot Sammy was intense. Vanessa did what she thought she had to do to save innocent people, and I respect her for that. She did what any cop would do in her situation. I was a little worried though when it turned out that it was a phone that Sammy had in his hand and they couldn’t find a gun.
I’m still not 100% sure they ended up finding a gun. I know Voight said they did, but we all know that Voight will do pretty much anything to protect his unit. I’m not totally convinced Voight didn’t have something to do with them finding the gun. Either way, I’m just glad Vanessa is okay and off the hook.
Kim: Look, you should go to work. I’m pretty sure the bad guys aren’t taking a day off cause I had a miscarriage
Vanessa: You just have to be patient and understand that his truth is as real to him as yours is to you oy mine is to me
Kim: I know what you’re doing. I appreciate it
Hailey: It’s not like I got a hot date, Rojas. Grubhub can wait
