Welcome to another Sunday of talking about the shows & movies that made us laugh, cry, go awww and, of course, look around and wonder what in the world was happening. If it made us feel things, whether they were good, or bad, then this is where we talk about it. This is where you tell us if you agree. This is where we let it all out.
So, without further ado, here are these week’s picks:
Badass Female Character of the Week
Lizzie: Vanessa Rojas, Chicago PD. It feels so good to see a Latina on a show like this, kicking ass, taking names and, more importantly, showing heart.
Jasmine: Rebecca Pearson on This is Us. Kate shared her insecurities about her body and wanting to go swimming without judgment. Like a good mom, Rebecca was there for her. She told her to grab her bathing suit so they could go swimming when she said “You’re fat, I’m ancient. We’re gorgeous.” I loved that because she was letting Kate know we all have something that we’re insecure about but that doesn’t make us any less than the next person.
Jessica: Grace James, All American. She proved to Darnell’s mother that she was more than capable of taking care of Darnell. She also showed she loves Spencer and Darnell, but they better obey her rules since this is her house. You go, Grace!
Lariel: Seven of Nine, Star Trek: Picard. Even if we only got her for a few seconds! She saved the day and I can’t wait to see what comes next!
OTP of the Week
Lizzie: Sam and Harry from Freeform’s The Thing About Harry, my FAVORITE rom-com of the year (I don’t care that it’s February). It’s so rare to see a rom com featuring a gay couple in general, but it’s even rarer to have that rom com treat them with a LGBTQ+ gaze, and that’s exactly what we got in this movie. There was no sense of otherness. And I ship it. I really ship it.
Jasmine: I said it last week and I’m saying it again. Hessa! I mean did you see the teaser trailer for After We Collided this week?
Jessica: Grace and Judd, 9-1-1: Lone Star. It was so refreshing that Judd actually listened to what Grace had to say and then apologized! What a concept. He wants to make sure she knows he truly loves her. I love their relationship.
Gillian: I’m not going to spoil anything, but Mae and Michael in The Photograph were just amazing. The way their relationship evolved is exactly what I want for myself. And Issa Rae and Lakeith Stanfield are very attractive people who ooze chemistry.
Moment that made you collapse into a puddle of FEELS
Lariel: Nora Darhk trying to keep a kid from becoming a killer on Legends of Tomorrow. She was one of two things that *made* the episode, and I’m still ticked off that she and Ray will be leaving the show.
Lizzie: Starz made the episode of Outlander available early, so I’m cheating and adding it here. Both Claire and Jamie’s moments with Brianna, before her wedding, were beautiful. I still don’t care much for Roger, but I do love that Brianna got that moment with both her parents.
Jasmine: Olivia and Spencer on All American. Since he was shot, they have both been dealing with PTSD. When Olivia told Spencer she hadn’t been sleeping well since the night it happened it made me so sad. I loved that she and Spencer opened up about that night and that they both said they would be there for one another to get through it.
Jessica: Asher on All American. He needs help, but for some reason he can’t seem to ask for it. He was so close to telling Olivia about his steroid use but changed his mind. It broke my heart when he said he didn’t know how much further he can push himself.
Quote of the Week
Jessica: “Straight, gay, bi, trans. Dating sucks, alright? There’s no way around it.” -TK, 9-1-1: Lone Star
Lizzie: “Cruelty IS the point” – Lucia, talking about the situations of immigrants at the border, on Party of Five
Gillian: ”Gideon, dim the lights and play ‘You’re the Inspiration’ by Chicago. And now, it’s whatever you wish, Nora! Gideon, don’t play Chicago.” -Ray Palmer, Legends of Tomorrow
Jasmine: “There is no your Tessa anymore!” – Tessa Young, After we Collided teaser trailer
WTF Moment of the Week
Emily: Sonic the Hedgehog comes out this week, and I feel so strongly about it. Is it going to be a trash fire or perfect? Probably both, honestly. I genuinely can’t believe that this movie exists.
Lizzie: I’m a little bit at a loss as to WHAT Briarpatch is trying to do. Is it just about Rosario Dawson in pantsuits or is there actually a plot? And, why would I care?
Gillian: I’ve read the articles and interview with him, but am still so confused at why Eminem performed at the Oscars. If it had been an anniversary year for 8 Mile, fine. To do something like this two years before a major milestone (20 years, ack) was utterly pointless.
Jasmine: I’m currently watching The Stranger on Netflix and every episode is a big what the fuck, but in a good I need to know more way. Seriously, I need to know more!
Jessica: This week’s episode of Good Trouble was just weird. I’m tired of Callie and Mariana fighting, and her new roommate needs to go ASAP. Jamie can see that she’s into Raj, why can’t anyone else?
Lariel: Mine is another “in a good way” WTF, and it’s the other thing that really made this week’s episode of Legends of Tomorrow; the big reveal of the Prom Night Slasher. It was an excellent, unexpected twist and things like this are what have kept me connected to the show even when I wanted to throw things at the TV for its overbearing silliness.
