Welcome to another Sunday of talking about the shows & movies that made us laugh, cry, go awww and, of course, look around and wonder what in the world was happening. If it made us feel things, whether they were good, or bad, then this is where we talk about it. This is where you tell us if you agree. This is where we let it all out.
This time around we’re doing things a little different. We’re going for the performances of the week that blew us away, left us wanting more still are on our brains days later!
So, without further ado, here are these week’s picks:
Lyra: Jodie Comer from Killing Eve continues to shine in every episode that she’s in and I’m here for every bit of her. In fact, when the season is over, a rewatch is needed just because of her and how far Villanelle has come. She’s no longer the person we knew in the beginning. She’s grown into this super dynamic and twisted woman who longs for more in her life. And during “Beautiful Monster” she continued showing what that change means for her and her future.
Lizzie: I’m going to say Luke Wilson in Stargirl, because I’m not sure when Luke Wilson went from leading man to perfect hot dad, but he’s absolutely nailing the second one. In fact, his relationship with step-daughter Courtney is right now the #1 reason I’m invested in Stargirl. My found family feels are tingling, and I absolutely love Pat’s brand of concerned/protective/but also proud dad. Just the perfect balance, and the perfect type of relationship to base a superhero show around.
Julie: I just want to talk about how hearing Ian McKellan say “So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us” in the trailer for the Lord of the Rings reunion made me cry. In fact, the whole trailer gave me so many feels the tears were running down my face. I rewatched the LOTR trilogy when the COVID-19 social distancing started, and it was like a balm to my soul. Seeing all the cast members together again on screen will be a bright spot in an otherwise terrible week. (The LOTR reunion will be part of Josh Gad’s “Reunited Apart” series on his Youtube Channel and will be posted May 31 at 12 p.m. ET)
Gillian: I’m going to say both Tala Ashe and Nick Zano on this week’s Legends of Tomorrow. To be fair, everyone in this ensemble kills it every week and this ridiculous episode which had the Legends trapped in various television shows is easily one of my favorite episodes ever. But Tala Ashe and Nick Zano especially. I really love both Zaris and just the emotion Ashe put out there. When she saw Behrad again. When she became Zari 1.0, but no one remembered her. She is such a light, the only one who knew what was happening and how to get them out of the situation. And then, there’s Zano’s Nate. While watching the Ultimate Buds parts which is a Friends-like sitcom, I just remembered how I first discovered him on What I Like About You and how happy I am that his career has flourished. But when he finally realized *his* Zari was back, goosebumps. I love these two so much and just want them to be happy!
Jasmine: Passionflix just released Gabriel’s Inferno yesterday and I was thoroughly impressed with Giulio Berruti and Melanie Zanetti’s performances as Gabriel and Julianne. I have read Gabriel’s Inferno and their casting was perfect from the very beginning. I was not disappointed at all and can honestly say this was the best Passionflix film yet. Melanie was able to convey all of Julias emotions and she had a quiet innocence but was also feisty. Giulio did a great job of bringing Professor Emerson to life. He was able to bring that hardness that Gabriel has but he was also able to switch to the softer version of him. I also have to acknowledge that they both had great chemistry.
