This entire week will be spent counting the days until the release of the Hamilton movie on Disney+. And it’s going to be excruciating.
But I’m willing to wait for it. Especially since we’ve got a small snippet (and I mean small) from the opening number of the Hamilton movie, which is more than enough to make this week wait even more difficult.
“Hamilton” is the story of America then, told by America now. Featuring a score that blends hip-hop, jazz, R&B and Broadway, “Hamilton” has taken the story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton and created a revolutionary moment in theatre—a musical that has had a profound impact on culture, politics, and education. Filmed at The Richard Rodgers Theatre on Broadway in June of 2016, the film transports its audience into the world of the Broadway show in a uniquely intimate way.Disney Plus
If there’s one good thing to come out of this quarantine, it’s that we’re gifted Hamilton more than a year earlier than its slated release date. And, quite frankly, there’s no better way to celebrate Independence Day than with a history lesson told in hip-hop, jazz, and R&B.
Having seen Hamilton on Broadway, there are no words to describe the experience of seeing it in person — even without the original cast and up in the mezzanine. But the thought of finally getting to see Hamilton with the original cast — from the comfort of my own home — now that’s something I’ve been waiting for.
BRB, going to listen to the Hamilton soundtrack on repeat until Friday.
