Leaving your career is never easy. I feel like it’s the most difficult thing in the world.
Especially when it is something that you love.
Cameron Diaz left and took a break from acting, which took the whole world by surprise. She was “at the top of her game,” but she was over it. At least that is what it seemed like.
That and she got married. And hey, I am not knocking it. I am all for time off when need be. And look, I could give her all of the shit in the world for walking away at the top of her game, but was 2014’s Annie really the top of anyone’s game?
Diaz was on Gwenyth Paltrow’s Goop Podcast and talked about why she left.
“I just decided that I wanted different things out of my life. I had gone so hard for so long, working, making films and it’s such a grind. I didn’t really make any space for my personal life.”
Ok, ok – work/life balance is important. I get that. But I am not trying to be an asshole when I say that we all need to handle that for ourselves. Yet with all those millions, I could afford a private life too.
She continued by saying that what she got from walking away, “A peace. I got a peace in my soul. I finally was taking care of myself.”
I can’t knock that. I mean, if peace is what she has, then I am all for it.
Would you walk away from a career for peace? I would.
