I don’t think I’ve ever fallen in love with a book as fast as I fell in love with The Rural Diaries. It’s truly a story of transformation and self-discovery. It’s uplifting, honest, and inspiring. Hilarie’s words and story will inspire you to find yourself, live your dreams, and by the end of the book you’ll probably find yourself wanting to move to a small farm in Rhinebeck, New York.
I bought this book because I’ve long-loved Hilarie, who starred as Peyton Sawyer in one of my favorite tv shows, One Tree Hill. After reading it, I found myself loving her even more. In The Rural Diaries, Hilarie Burton Morgan tells her truth. She talks about it all – the good, the bad, and the ugly. And that’s one of the many reasons why I loved this book. She kept it real and honest, and I appreciated that.
The Rural Diaries is about Hilarie’s life and transition from the fast-paced Hollywood lifestyle to life on the farm in upstate New York. As Hilarie says herself in the book, it’s a love letter. A love letter to her husband, her farm, her family, and her life.
Throughout the book, Hilarie gives us a glimpse into her life in Rhinebeck, New York. She talks about her work with Astor Services and Samuels Sweet Shop, as well as her life on Mischief Farm. Hilarie has talked so fondly about all of these places, so it was cool to get to learn more about them in her book. The work she does for her town is so inspiring and if you’re anything like me, it will make you want to get more involved in local organizations and even some of the organizations she talks about in Rhinebeck, like Astor. Hilarie is such a champion for her town. Rhinebeck is lucky to have her.
I also loved the love story between Hilarie and her husband, Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Their love story is absolutely beautiful. They had this instant connection from the moment they met and instantly hit it off. If you’re someone who believes in soulmates and love-at-first-sight, trust me when I say this book is for you. Sure, their relationship wasn’t without its low points, but what relationship really is? Hilarie and Jeffrey are one of my favorite couples, and their love story is one of my favorites. They are a prime example of “love conquers all”.
The way Hilaire wrote this book, it’s like she’s talking to you as if you’re her best friend. She really pours her heart out in this book, and it allows you to really relate to her and her story. It allows you to realize that she is a lot more like you and I than we may realize. She struggled to find her way, and herself, and I think that’s something we all can relate to.
So, if you haven’t already, do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of The Rural Diaries. I promise you won’t regret it.
