There’s no greater high or lower low than when it comes to being a sports fan. And only a sports fan would understand. How a win or loss can affect your entire outlook on a given day. How special it is to fell like you’re a part of something that’s bigger than you.
In the new sports documentary Maybe Next Year, one of those battered fanbases, the Philadelphia Eagles, is spotlighted. For anyone that knows football, you’ve heard about Eagles fans. How they’re crazy, obnoxious and nasty. After all, this is the fanbase known for throwing snowballs at Santa Claus and having a jail underneath their stadium.
But they’re just like every other fanbase that has yearned for their team to win it all. For most, they never quite reach the peak of sports fandom in winning a championship. Some of us have been waiting our entire lives for that one shining moment. And despite how much disappointment your favorite team can bring you, you keep coming back for more.
You keep thinking, hey, maybe this is finally the year.
Maybe Next Year isn’t a film about the Eagles winning the Super Bowl. It’s about spotlighting the passionate Eagles fanbase and all of the good, bad and ugly that comes with it. And, lucky for them, they did finally reach the top.
