If you’re familiar with The CW, then you know they have an affinity for creating spinoffs for some of their hit series. Heck, they’ve even gone as much as to create universes for their superhero shows (Arrowverse), The Vampire Diaries universe (TVD) and even Riverdale there for a short while with Katy Keene.
Now, it sounds like The CW is giving us another universe with Nancy Drew — the Drew-niverse.
The network is developing a potential spinoff titled Tom Swift, which is based on the book series of the same name. According to EW.com, Tom Swift will debut as a backdoor pilot in season 2 of Nancy Drew.
“According to the logline, it will center on the titular Tom Swift, a gay Black man and billionaire inventor who is thrown into the world of sci-fi conspiracy and unexplained phenomena after the shocking disappearance of his father. As Tom goes on a quest to unravel the truth, he will fight to stay one step ahead of an Illuminati-scale group hell-bent on stopping him.”
According to EW, “Tom will first appear on Nancy Drew as he crashes into one of Nancy’s investigations, an event that she interprets as supernatural and Tom believes to be cosmically paranormal. A Tom-specific pilot script is also in development.”
