Welcome back Grown-ish fans! This week Vivek explores his sexuality, Nomi comes home and Doug and Jazz finally have “the talk.” So much happened, that I found it exhausting at times to keep up. The long awaited post one night stand blow out, between Jazz and Doug finally happened AND Vivek came to terms with his sexuality and stands up for LGBTQ rights in the process, with a little help from Nomi. There was so much to dissect and talk about in this week’s Grown-ish 3×14 “Know Yourself” so lets get to it.
3 Ways and Molly

Vivek is having like, the best junior year EVER! He has a steady girlfriend, makes good grades and lives in a ultra nice house, that most college kids can only dream of. He seems to have it all and he seems to have tried it all EXCEPT, he’s never tried the drug molly and while high, Vivek’s girlfriend also wants him to engage in a 3 way with her and another dude. Vivek indulges her fantasy and he seems completely chill with his decision, however, when he tells his best friends Aaron and Doug they are excited for him, until they learn it was with another guy. Their conversation got ugly real quick ya’ll.
Doug chastises Vivek for sipping his bottle water with a straw, having his hair highlighted and eating bananas in public. Guys don’t do that, and toxic masculinity is followed in suite by Aaron, who honestly I thought would be much more understanding. Vivek is understandably hurt and angry and storms off, Aaron replies, “See. that dramatic exit was kinda gay.” Okay, I kinda laughed at that because it was dramatic, but why does that have to equate with someone being gay?
Speaking of rude motherfuckers, Doug was being an ass to Jazz about her one night stand. Okay, Doug, as your best friend Aaron told you, you’re the one who said it was okay to sleep with other people, so why are you mad at Jazz? Doug is in his feelings because he didn’t sleep with anyone, he thinks Jazz belongs to him, but she’s not property and she told that her sleeping with that guy didn’t mean anything, she LOVES YOU! We all know this a double standard, because had Doug slept with another girl, no one would have batted an eye, and Jazz would have come off as looking like the jealous crazy girlfriend. These gender roles are killing me. Even when Doug and Jazz finally kiss and make up, he can’t sleep with her because he see’s her as “soiled.” Just WOW! was all could think and I felt horrible for Jazz.
Nomi Comes Home

Nomi has been missing for a minute! I missed her snarky yet apropos comments about her friends. Nomi has a different world view now, she’s a young single mom, she has not been involved with any of the drama that’s been going on at Cal-U, and kind of like Zoey, she feels left out. I get it Nomi, but everyone is happy to have you back, the storylines need to evolve so welcome back Kotter! Ha! Nomi is the first one to take up for Vivek when he gets railed on by Aaron and Doug for kissing a guy, even though Vivek states: I explored my sexuality and I have no regrets. Vivek tells them he’s not gay, but if he were would they still be his friend?
Those two fools start exclaiming that they support the gays and they are not homophobic. Nomi counters that its like saying oh I don’t hate black people because I have one black friend. Good point, Nomi.
Everyone is emotional about this, and even Ana and Jazz speak up and say its easier for girls to explore their sexuality and be with other women but its not the same for guys. Why is that? No one knows and everyone has an opinion. Nomi appeals to Aaron’s intellect and finally homeboy sees the light. Last year when he dated Ana for a breif second he went against everything he said he stood for, by dating a woman who wasn’t black. Nomi tells Aaron you cannot let one decision define your entire life. Man, thank you writers for bringing Nomi back! Until next week guys!
