A lot is going on. All the time. Everywhere. And we publish a lot of content every week, some of it breaking news, other more editorial stuff, as well as reviews and teases of shows and movies to come. We understand you can’t always be on top of everything. And as such, you might miss stuff we wish …well, you wouldn’t.
So, every week, I’m going to comb through the site and point you, once again, to the stuff you should take the time to read. Either because it’s really funny, or because it’s a particularly good take, or just because I liked it. This is my list, after all.
Here are my picks for the 5 can’t miss Fangirlish articles of this week:
Lyra had a chance to interview Deborah Snyder in the leadup to Zack Snyder’s Justice League, which she always got to screen and review, and to see her – someone who wasn’t necessarily too invested in this property, and very removed from the discourse about it, actually catch feelings for the movie, and get invested in her conversation with Deborah, a conversation that focused mostly on female representation, was a real treat.
We’re not gonna lie, WandaVision blew us away. We went from not caring to enjoying every second, theorizing together, buying merchandise, and more importantly, feeling things. So I relate a lot to Shelby trying to put together a list of her best moments of season 1 and just …failing spectacularly at narrowing the list down. The show was just that good! In fact, I’m shocked she kept it at 18. Now that’s restraint.
Raquel takes on Zero Chill, a show we also wrote an advanced review about, and by we I mean me. So that means I can absolutely tell you that Raquel’s review of this show is absolutely on point. This isn’t a particularly deep show that’s gonna make you think or theorize, but it’s an entertaining, fun watch and Raquel really gets to the heart of what works in this show and why you should give it a chance.
We really love Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist around here. And we never tire of talking about it. Except now the show is on hiatus and we haven’t had much to talk about, and so we’re going a little bit crazy. So, yes, time to have so fun! And that’s exactly what Jade is doing with this tournament. I mean, that and torturing us, but I think she’d probably say she has fun torturing us?
Grace goes into one of my favorite tropes ever, musical episodes. I know, I know, often they don’t work, and/or make any sense, but I still have a soft spot for them, and the reason why is probably the episode from the cover photo, yes, Buffy’s “Once More With Feeling.” Whether you like them or not, Grace’s exploration of the trope, when it works and when it doesn’t is absolutely worth a read.
I’m going to sneak one of mine here, because I am absolutely obsessed with Shadow and Bone, and being that Inej Ghafa is basically one of my favorite characters in literature, and I’m super excited for what Amita Suman brings to the role, I wanted to start hyping her up as early as possible. Read it, fall in love with her, and then wait for her to blow you away.
