Hello Grown-ish Fans! The gang is back from Mexico and ready to start their senior year off right! Too bad COVID is ravaging the community, Vivek’s drug bust still looms over him and Doug and Jazz still cannot get along. I pray these children make it to the finish line and get to throw up tassels in celebration but I fear someone or someone’s will have a major setback this year. Sigh. I’m breaking down some of the stand out performances/storylines of ‘Grown-ish’ “Demons.” So let’s get to it!
Everyone’s just breezing through COVID, Quarantine and online school A.K.A. Writers Block, Also Vivek Gets Expelled

Okay guys, I get we all have post lockdown fatigue and all but like Grown-ish barely skimmed the surface of what it was like for college students to live through a year of online school or no school at all. The opening scene was more of a montage, que the zombies. I expected more from the writers, especially since these students are minorities and lived a in HOT spot like California. Maybe they will circle back? I’m not saying I need a full COVID themed episode, Lord knows we were all worn slick with that and Grey’s Anatomy, BUT I least expected some intense dialogue.
I will admit I want things to go back to “normal” but what even is that? What does that feel like? I think Grown-ish should have addressed the elephant in the room a little better. I didn’t need a an entire episode, but realistically wouldn’t Zoey be at home with Dre and Bow? Wouldn’t she be worried about her grandparents? African American’s were affected disproportionally. So come on! Do better writers!
Meanwhile, Vivek’s drug dealing days are coming to an end, FINALLY. Seriously, he’s been dealing since freshman year and was once beat up and placed in the hospital. Remember that? He had Zoey lie to his parents for him! However, Vivek is still dealing and still balling even after his arrest. Vivek is not taking things seriously at all, mainly because he gets a slap on the wrist for his drug dealing and has to do community service.
BUT Cal-U decides to take it a step further and expel him! Ruh Ro! Vivek is one of the most book smart characters on this show, and he was going to become an engineer, get his a nice house, so he could stop driving cabs. He had big dreams but he let his dreams run wild and he tried to take shortcut’s to get there. Vivek has learned a hard lesson, I don’t know where he will end up now, or how he will tell his parents about his arrest and his expulsion.
Hearbreaker. Dreambreaker. Homewrecker.

Lets get to the meat of “Demons,” shall we, because what I did not see coming was the verbal assault Rochelle laid on Zoey. Zoey meets with Ana and Nomi to discuss the upcoming internship she needs to graduate, the bad news is, Rochelle is in charge of acceptances into that program. Sort of like the guide, I guess. Anyway, Zoey is all panicked of course when she sees her and tries to play it off like oh, “Its been a crazy semester!” Bahahahaha!
Now, I never liked Rochelle as a character, I never thought she had any chemistry with Aaron, she never clicked with the group and I’m team Zoey one hundred percent. HOWEVER, what Zoey and Aaron did, is so messy. I mean I’d have to start at the beginning of this fiasco but we don’t have that kinda of time, so I will say this, Aaron was dating Rochelle. Rochelle asked Zoey to back off because she knew there was “something” between her and Aaron, Zoey agreed but then slept with Aaron, Aaron broke up with Rochelle but never told her why.
Zoey, baby girl, Rochelle has every right to be upset and mad at you. Rochelle has every right to be passive aggressive if she wants to be. Aaron cheated on her, did not tell her, and now all of a sudden Aaron is dating Zoey. It’s so very MESSY. Not to mention you guys all attend classes together, it’s hella awkward too.
Nomi and Ana try to play devils advocate, with both of them giving ill advice. There is honestly nothing they can say that will make the situation better, what’s done was done and Zoey needs to face the consequences of her actions. The problem is Zoey is the first born of her family and her daddy’s favorite, she is extremely selfish, though she’s getting better, and she is very blind to her actions and how they effect others.
Some of these flaws are expected because she is in her early 20’s and a college student. Is her frontal lobe fully developed yet? I digress. Rochelle may not be my favorite character, but she came ready for Zoey’s ass ya’ll! Rochelle cut her no slack and told her exactly what she was, how she felt and where Zoey could take her perfectly manicured ass. Damn! #Byebitch
