Welcome back Grown-ish fans! “Canceled” picks up right where we left off last week, with Zoey confronting Luca about his tweet outing Esme as a fraud and stealing Zoey’s design.
Zoey had hoped the entire incident could be swept under the rug and she had made her peace with letting Esme off the hook because she was another woman of color. I don’t know if I agree with Zoey’s decision to do that, but I know Luca was wrong for putting that shit on Twitter. I get Luca is mad at Zoey, because yes, she is a phenomenal designer in her own right, and yet, Zoey always chooses to stay out of the limelight. I agree with Luca’s passion for wanting Zoey to shine this time and wanting her to take the credit for her design NOT Esme. However, he went about it all wrong and landed Zoey on the wrong side of Black Twitter. #ihatezoey
I blame Luca for setting this ball of chaos in motion, and I blame Zoey for not standing up for herself in the first place. Stop asking your friends what you should do all of the time Zoey! Damn. I don’t know if Zoey can make it after college, I really don’t. At this point, Zoey should be ready to tackle anyone and everything and she should be defending herself against Esme, who DID in fact STEAL her design and blatantly at that. In a perfect world, Esme SHOULD be apologizing to Zoey for taking advantage of her and the creativeness she possesses. I think Esme is really just burnt out and has lost her way, but that’s just my take, and no one actually ever addresses the reason behind Esme’s shortcomings as an artist.

Twitter starts taking sides, and Zoey is coming out on the losing end, so she decides to take matters into her own hands a “go live” to clear the air, but she ends up making things way worse than they already were. Twitter will eat you alive if you let it. #BlackTwitterIsReal It’s hard to be Zoey, a 20 something college student, who has not a leg to stand on career-wise, especially when her track record is styling two rappers, one of whom EVERYONE thinks she slept with. How does Zoey already have THAT reputation? Why do people think the only way a woman can succeed is to sleep with a man who is perceived to be in charge/control. FUCK THAT! I was mad at Ana and Nomi for even thinking their friend would sleep with Joey Bada$$ to get ahead in her career. That is NOT Zoey, and honestly, she should be mad at them as well. Everyone needs to get set straight, today Zoe. Just make a list and start crossing off names girl.
Nothing on this show EVER goes as I planned it to go in my head before watching it. HA! I mean Zoey quits her internship like a dummy and now I don’t know if she’ll graduate and you’ll know her daddy Dre will come unhinged if that happens. Luca and Aaron are fighting over Zoey and btw, that’s so old writers! This love triangle is so so tired, move on. Give Luca someone to date and stop acting like he’s pining for Zoey, HE’s NOT. Why can’t they let these children all be friends? Why does there ALWAYS have to be a love triangle? I’m OVER IT.
Additional Thoughts:
Jazz meets a new beau, named Des, at the gym, and honestly, it was the highlight of the episode. He’s queer and he’s into Jazz and wants to take her out to breakfast. I could not believe Jazz agreed to go out with him, not because she is homophobic, but mainly because Jazz is still in love with Doug, regardless of what she tells herself and her friends.
However, it was good for her to get back in the water and have some fun again without any strings attached. Jazz was all into Des too, until he showed up to the club in a leather jacket and a dress cuter than hers! Jazz’s face was priceless, and I think Des went from being a potential piece of ass to the “just friends” category real quick. I guess we’ll find out next week, in the mid-season finale. Until then guys, Peace!
