Welcome back Grown-ish fans! We have reached the mid-season finale in “You Beat Me to the Punch,” and as per usual there was a party (Luau), and then shit hit the fan. This show loves to have a party when they do a finale. I assume it’s because all intersecting storylines can come together, but it usually just turns into a Bermuda Triangle with me asking more questions than writers want to give me answers.
Just when I thought things couldn’t get any worse between Meredith, Derek, and Addison, oops! I mean Zoey, Aaron and Luca, they did, and things got out of focus, real quick. Nomi and Ana are going to get into law school, especially Nomi; she was always the smart one in this group. Ana has such a type A personality that I think she’s a shoo-in for law school as well. Good luck to those girls! Will they end up being roomies in a spin-off?
The biggest shocker of the night came towards the end of this episode, well there were actually two BIG shockers. One shocker, I saw a mile away, no wait, 25 miles away. #Zuca #Zaron The other bombshell that dropped I did not see, but I wish I could un-see. So, let’s dive into the mid-season finale of Grown-ish “You Beat Me to the Punch,” shall we.

I guess fighting over Zoey is kind of poetic in a way? Aaron and Luca are both in LOVE with her. Aaron has professed his love for Zoey multiple times and they have chosen to be together, they even got fake married in Mexico. Luca knows this, and he never actually says he’s in love with Zoey, but he totally is. I think Luca is still furious with Zoey for running straight into Aaron’s arms after season 2’s love hangover.
I don’t understand why Luca and Zoey can’t just be best friends though. The writers would really like for this triangle to come to fruition but I’m not feeling it. Why can’t Zoey have a best friend in Luca, he’s exactly like her but with dreads? I also think Luca undermining Aaron and Zoey at every turn is getting old. I am totally on board with Kiki when she asked Luca why he was always inserting himself into Zoey’s life. #truth
Make-up sex is the BEST right? Except when it’s not and you know that afterglow can’t last forever. Aaron felt so bad for Zoey because she lost her internship that she needs to graduate and so he tries to help her find another one, but I mean come on, you can’t find that on “Indeed.” So Aaron does the most precious thing in my opinion, he goes to the Dean and begs him to give Zoey credit for both of her failed internships, because honestly, two halves make a whole right? Haha! I loved Aaron at this moment, what I didn’t love is the stupid writers trying to have some sort of tension and build-up between Aaron and Luca, who have been cool up until this season. I’m over your lazy writing where this storyline is concerned writers. FIX IT.
Zoey has told both Aaron and Luca that she doesn’t need either of them to intercede for her. Zoey insists she is a grown woman and she can stand on her own two feet, and she is more than willing to take life’s bumps and bruises without a man coming to rescue her all of the time. What do these two fools do though? Aaron gets the dean to graduate her, and Luca offers her an internship with his clothing company, and she accepts! Not because she’s conniving or wants to hurt Aaron, but because she didn’t know Aaron talked to the Dean on her behalf. Do you see how this leads to a Bermuda Triangle guys?

No ommunication/Miscommunication is detrimental in any relationship. These children will learn the hard way I see. Quite honestly, this end-of-the-year party, that Doug and Luca organized was perfect for a lot of other nonsense too, because where there is a lot of drinking and college kids, there is also a lot of hook-ups and fighting. This leads me to Aaron’s dumb hot head ass. Why Aaron? Why did you have to punch Luca in the face? I wish Aaron would have walked away and let that shit go, but I also knew Aaron didn’t like Luca being all smug towards him, and I also knew he was insecure around Luca sometimes, but damn son! Aaron better not blame Zoey for his actions either, because it is NOT her fault.
The only people having fun at the party are Des and Jazz, who share a kiss and Jazz seems to be accepting of Des’ fluid sexuality. We will see how long this relationship lasts, however, especially when Sky returns. However, if Jazz is happy I’m happy and if Des is the guy for her then let them BE. I would like for one of the couples to catch a break, lord knows these damn writers don’t want that. I wonder what will Sky have to say about everything she has missed this year? I really miss Sky’s snark and one-liners she would have had a lot to say about the Luca and Aaron situation.
Okay, so this could have happened in season one, but I assume the writers scratched the idea until now, but Ana and Vivek end up sleeping together, and it did not take me by surprise at all. Do you all remember when Ana got mad at Javi because Vivek is the one who picked out that watch she loved so much? That was FORESHADOWING guys. Ana and Vivek have been confiding in each other a lot, plus they all live together in one BIG house so this was bound to happen at some point. Vivek knows Ana well, and clearly, he’s good in bed, by the look on Ana’s face after they have sex. Vivek is smart, and kind, if he wasn’t a drug dealer he would check all the boxes! LMAO! I don’t know if these two can make it? Maybe? I guess we’ll see when Grown-ish returns next season. Until then guys!
