Stop for a second and think – would there be anyone in the world that you would go over the side of a bridge for? Would you jump off the side of a bridge to save anyone? Having to be honest, I am not sure that there is anyone that I would go off a bridge for.
Well, besides family.
But in Fire Country, Gabriella didn’t think twice about going over the bridge for Brody. Hell the look that was in her eyes told us all the same thing. She was in love.
I think that we all have a lot of feelings about television shows, and when it comes down to it – we have even bigger feelings about ships. It doesn’t matter that it’s not supposed to be what you’re paying attention to, it’s what you’re paying attention to. Because shows, movies – they are all supposed to make you feel.
And Fire Country excels at that every week. It takes your emotions, draws them out, and tells you that you needed what it’s giving you. It gives you compelling stories, that at their heart is about the human experience. And this story – this particular 40 some odd minutes of television is about the experience of people finding their space. It’s about these human beings finding a spot in the fabric that makes up Cal Fire and the world around it.
We know that they are in this spot, because of a car accident. The last episode was all about saving the kids that were hit and this week is about saving Cal Fire.
It’s a week after the accident and there is a legal case against Cal Fire. Everyone is being interviewed about what happened. When Gabriella jumped in the river, she was able to save Bode. Her swimming training helped her be able to pull Bode to the shore, where she performs CPR and Bode comes to. What you have to admire about Bode is that he instantly goes into survival mode.
Gabriella wants to stay in place, but they are both cold and Bode knows if they stay in place they will not survive. So the two set out to find their way to the road. Hypothermia is setting in and they are both tired. Yet neither one of them stops. However, they do hear a human voice.
And that human voice leads them to the person that caused the accident. She’s scared, she’s alone, she’s hurt and she’s afraid they will leave her That’s just not who Bode and Gabriella are. Of course she doesn’t know that. But the two of them are the purest of hearts – even though I don’ think even they realize that.
It’s them getting back to the road and back to civilization that is part of the problem. The girl is seriously injured and keeps telling them to leave her, but they don’t want to do that.

Everyone is searching for them. Manny is frantic. Vince is frantic. Neither one of them are willing to give up on their kids and it’s honestly a hard thing to watch. It’s hard because watching their pain, their anguish, and the way that they are afraid that they will never see their kids again. It’s not an easy thing to see.
But it speaks to who all of these people are. They are people who don’t give up. They are people who persevere. They are people who believe in the power of family.
And yes, they make mistakes. Manny sets a fire that he is hoping will guide Gabriella and Bode back. And it does.
Because when Gabriella collapses, the only thing that Bode can think about is saving her. All he cares about is her. He doesn’t care about himself. He cares about her. Bode has done a lot of things wrong in his life, but what he won’t let happen is himself go down that road again. He wants to be better.
I do believe that a lot of what Bode is motivated by is his Moms illness. I also think though is that he knows that he has a chance for redemption. I don’t believe that he’s necessarily look for that from other people, as much as he needs that from within himself.

Bode had every intention of going back for that girl. He had every intention. So for this interviewer to come and look at placing the blame on him – not acceptable. But the way Vince stepped up. Well, I am just a girl sitting here, admitting that I was wrong about Vince.
There is so much character growth in Vince, but his realization that he needs to be there for his son, that he will need to be the father that he should have been all along. He talks to the parents that are suing Cal Fire and he fights for his son.
There wasn’t a relationship in this episode that wasn’t changed. Everyones life was affected. And we’re here for it all. But we all need to protect Bode and Gabriella at all costs.
