We were already in for Special Ops: Lioness when it dropped its first images and synopsis. But now that the trailer is out, we’re seated and ready to take in this spy thriller series and the long political game they are playing.
Special Ops: Lioness tells the story of Joe, played by Zoe Saldaña. She is “the station chief of the Lioness program tasked with training, managing, and leading her female undercover operatives.” Basically, she is in charge of assets, primarily women, who get close to other women close to people who are in powerful positions.
Inspired by an actual US military program, it sees Joe stuck between a rock and a hard place. Because not only does she have to make sure her operatives like “aggressive Marine Raider named Cruz,” played by Laysla De Oliveira, stay alive. She also has to deal with a political game she’s getting tired of and the woes of a personal life like everyone else.
Saldaña is joined by Nicole Kidman, Michael Kelly, and Morgan Freeman. Kidman oversees the Lioness program as Kaitlyn Meade alongside Kelly’s character Donald Westfield. For his part, Freeman will play Edwin Mullins, the Secretary of State. As for the behind-the-scenes team, Taylor Sheridan will serve as creator and showrunner.
