Fangirlish feels of the week

This piece was written during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Without the labor of the writers and actors currently on strike, tv shows and movies being covered in Fangirlish Feels of the Week wouldn’t exist. We stand with the WGA and SAG-AFTRA.

We watch a lot of TV and movies! And we read a lot of books too, not to mention the time we spend on TikTok. In case all the reviews, interviews, news, and features didn’t give you a clue (wink, wink), we come together to highlight all those great moments that our favorite shows, movies, and books give us throughout the week. On these Fangirlish Feels of the Week, there are five categories and many thoughts! Ready?

Here we go

Moment that made you collapse into a puddle of FEELS

Amanda: When I read Olivia Rodrigo’s Rolling Stone interview and got to the part where she revealed one of the only times she’s been starstruck was when she was younger and met Vanessa Hudgens because “She’s Filipino like me,” my tear ducts went dry. 🥺😭 Olivia’s just like me for real! 😅

Rachel: Just like last week, it’s got to be Hayden Christensen’s appearance as Anakin on Ahsoka. I’m so glad he’s had a chance to come back to this character since the Prequel films.

Jasmine: Every part of Thursday’s episode of General Hospital. My ship Sprina (Spencer + Trina) are FINALLY getting the love and romance they deserve. These last few months have been sooooo bad. I actually teared up because I was overjoyed to see them so in love. And now they’re preparing to take a trip to NYC ALONE! I am incredibly happy.

Shana: That Foundation finale was brutal. Salvor’s last moments, in particular…The ugly tears I cried watching that scene were a lot.

WTF Moment of the Week

Rachel: Sean Penn’s Variety interview comments about the Will Smith Oscars slap are really rich coming from him considering what he did to Madonna.

Ashley W.: Some Chris Evans “fans” really need to reevaluate their supposed status of such. Yes, he’s a famous actor, but he’s a stranger to you, and you’re a stranger to him. You don’t know him, and you don’t have a personal relationship with him.

You are not entitled to any information about his life just because he’s famous, and you are not entitled to an opinion about his life or the relationships he does have. Just enjoy his acting work, and leave him alone. He’s just a person who deserves privacy like we all do.

Shana: When they showed who Bradley woke up with in that first of the premiere of The Morning Show, I’m pretty sure I actually yelled WTF. They knew what they were doing with the slow reveal and the hair or whatever. Rude.

Tik Tok That Made Me LOL

Chris Evans for Variety

Ashley W.: My favorite superhero is Captain America, and Chris Evans has been one of my celebrity crushes since Fantastic Four (2005). So TikTok definitely got the algorithm right when this showed up on my For You page (even though I am not delusional enough to think I ever had a chance or that I was even sad).

Lyra: If you’re looking for another reason to watch One Piece, Sanji is here.

What We’re Reading This Week

Amanda: I’m reading one of the many books in my physical TBR pile, Highly Suspicious and Unfairly Cute by Talia Hibbert.

Rachel: The Belle of Belgrave Square by Mimi Matthews. It’s delightful and I like Matthews’ writing style. (And yes, I read a lot of romance, what about it?)

Ashley W.: I finished reading the first story arc in the All-New Ghost Rider comic book run, and it was great to finally dive into the comic book version of Robbie Reyes after having come to love the character on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

What We Rewatched This Week

MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. – From ABC Studios and Marvel Television, “MARVELÕS AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.” returns for its seventh and final season on WEDNESDAY, MAY 27 (10:00 – 11:00 p.m. EDT). (ABC) ENVER GJOKAJ

Miah: The moment September started I figured it was time to head back to NOLA, hence The Originals rewatch. Having binged through season 3 this week, I’m reminded how heartbreaking Davina, Cami, and Jacksons deaths were. Like the emotional turmoil the prophecy put the Mikaelsons through was ROUGH.

At the same time though, the comedic moments got so much funnier as the seasons progressed. Like “E: Don’t forget the mistress. K: THAT was an accident” is still the best line of season 3.

Rachel: I rewatched the Back to the Future trilogy this week just because they’re completely entertaining. Marty and Doc are one of the best bromances in cinema.

Jasmine: I already posted this in a previous feels but, I rewatched Mermaids again. That movie is my comfort film and I’ve been needing it a lot these last few weeks. Anything that makes you smile and gives you joy, just enjoy it.

Ashley W.: I’m seemingly always in the middle of an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. rewatch of some sort, and the latest episode I watched was 7×03: “Alien Commies From the Future!” It is easily one of my favorites, because it’s the one that features Daniel Sousa’s return to the Marvel universe.

I loved and adored Sousa in Agent Carter, and I will be forever grateful that the S.H.I.E.L.D. showrunners brought in Enver Gjokaj to reprise his role as Sousa. Given the fact Sousa is from a show set in the post-war 1940s, it is ridiculous for him to have ever crossed over to S.H.I.E.L.D. in the way he did. Because he’s not showing up in flashbacks or anything like that.

He is an active part of the story, interacting with the S.H.I.E.L.D. team from the present day. And I’ll simply never get over the greatness of it.
