Supergirl is flying to the CW this year. And though that means a lot of changes, among them filming location, worry not, Supergirl is still Supergirl. She’s just got many more new friends. And family.
Yes, the show being part of the CW means Arrow, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow crossovers. It also apparently means big stakes that necessitate the Super-cousins uniting. And that’s super exciting.
Here’s five things we learned from the Supergirl panel at SDCC:
1. This show is about family
About the family that you make, the one you choose, and yet, also, the one you are born with, and that’s why bringing Superman in was so important. It’s also why they waited until Season 2 to do so, they wanted Kara to stand on her own before they brought in her super-cousin.
Now, the question in, what’s so big that it needs both Supergirl and Superman to unite? And also, how will Superman react to Kara’s life in National City? And, is he only coming as Superman, or is Clark Kent going to make an appearance?
2. Chyler Leigh and Melissa Benoist behave like real-life sisters
One of the best and most convincing parts of this show is the chemistry between Melissa Bonist and Chyler Leigh, and we’re happy to report none of that is staged – the two really do behave like sisters! From smiling at each other every time someone said something nice about the other, to gushing about how awesome it was to work together, the Danvers sisters are on point, even when they’re not playing the Danvers sisters.
3. We’re gonna see more of Alex’s personal life, and possibly Winn’s as well
Where does Alex live? Does she have friends outside the DEO? Now that Kara’s personal life has been established, it’s time to take a look at the characters around her and what they do when Kara is not on the scene. Two characters we can expect to see more of are Alex and Winn, whose lives have, to this point, mostly revolved around Kara.
And hey, there might be a job-change in the cards for Winn. He is, after all, a computer expert. Maybe the DEO needs one?
4. Superman is no the only familiar face coming to Supergirl
He’s just the one we know best. But, in addition to Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman, Florianna Lima will play Maggie Sawyer and Lynda Carter will play the POTUS. And that’s just the ones that have been announced!
That’s not all, though. Lex Luthor’s sister, Lena, and several others are expected to join the cast this season, to potentially wreak havoc on National City.
5. Christopher Wood is the one in the Pod. We just don’t know WHO he’s playing
We got some info, yes. Christopher Wood is the one in the pod. We just don’t know who he’s playing, and no one from the Supergirl cast is budging. This was made especially easy by the fact that they have yet to start production, so there was no trailer to we could dissect. In fact, Tyler Hoechlin still hasn’t tried to Superman costume!
