Absolute Power corrupts Absolutely.
That phrase could be used a lot to describe what has happened to many characters on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D but this time around, General Glenn Talbot is the man corrupted by power. Okay, that might be a understatement there. Gravitonium has turned Talbot from a up-tight but simple colonel into a super-villain that even Loki would be like: “Okay dude, going a bit far there.”
I mean, it all looked so good at the beginning of “The One Who Will Save Us All.” Talbot and Coulson fly to the ship after breaking out of the Lighthouse. Talbot is able to intimidate the main alien “Qovos” into taking him to meet with the other members of “The Confederacy.” Coulson playing wing-man throughout this is was perfect as Clark Gregg does a great job showing us Coulson’s doubt over Talbot and what he’s becoming growing and growing with each scene.
After some facial hair grooming and wardrobe change, Talbot gets his meeting with The Confederacy. After a quick round of “You don’t belong here” with Talbot, one of the Confederacy tells him that only six can make up the group. Quicker than you can say “Uh Oh,” Talbot is crushing the one who proclaimed himself to be the wisest of the group much like on does with a beer can.
That show of power gets one member of the group impressed — “Taryan” who proclaims himself from the Kasius family.
RED-FLAG ALERT. RED-FLAG ALERT. Kasius as you all can remember, is the blue-skinned jerk who plagued our team of Agents throughout the beginning of this season in the future. So while this is obviously not the same person, anyone from that family shouldn’t be trusted.
This is proven to be correct when Talbot comes back from his meeting with Taryan and proclaims that he wants to get to the gravitonium underneath the earth’s surface to become “The Shield” the earth needs. Coulson and a newly-enlisted to help General Hale try to talk him out of this but by now Talbot has gone full Thanos-mad with power. Hale gets the wrath of the new General Talbot by getting the crushed cube treatment and Coulson is forced to kneel after being threatened with the same.
This is the time when the Calvary arrives and Melinda isn’t coming alone as Daisy is with her after the interstellar trip up to the Kree ship. Deke is also aboard on this flight but not in the battle. Hopefully he’s got a plan because May and Daisy’s of just straight-up trying to fight Talbot doesn’t go well.
So May and Coulson are captured as “prisoners of war” and Daisy is taken by Taryan to do who knows what to her. The Earth has a new hero in General Glenn Talbot. Whether she wants it or not.
So with only 2 episodes to go (How?!), the stage is set for a big battle between Talbot and the team for the fate of the Earth and the future. The set-up for this has been fantastic and this episode had the feeling of when the tea-kettle starts whistling when it’s hot. You’ve waited for the moment to take a drink, now it’s time to pour it out and see how good this ending is going to be.
OTHER THOUGHTS
- Lots of good character interactions in this episode and I’ll hit them one by one.
- Starting with Yo-Yo and her talks/fights with Mack and Daisy. Her and Mack are still hurting from everything that has happened and both want to make it right but too much has gone on to just sweep it under the rug. Yo-Yo and Daisy have a excellent fight when she finds out about Daisy and her grave-digging.
- Mother May stops the fight and pretty much tells Yo-Yo “Either help out or F*ck off” in no uncertain terms.
- Fitz and Mack have a heart to heart and it’s one of those things where both are right and both are wrong. And those are always the most painful. Fitz is right about sometimes sacrifices have to made like Ruby. Mack is right as killing shouldn’t be S.H.I.E.L.D’s way.
- I just want to give Mack a hug.
- Another person I wanted to hug was Deke who gave Daisy the old “I Love You so I will show you this by showering your bed with Lemons” trick. Daisy thought this was a prank and after a long discussion of Daisy talking about how she’s still hurting from Lincoln’s death, Deke decides now is not the time.

- Daisy’s pining for lost love is very much CW-levels here.
- I’ll just say it: I wasn’t a fan of Lincoln.
- Jemma isn’t seen much in this episode for my liking but she is able to work up something that could cure Coulson of his impending death.
- THANOS IS REFERENCED so all this must be happening during Avengers: Infinity War.
- Next post is SPOILERS for Infinity War so please if you haven’t watched it yet, PLEASE WATCH IT. GO.
SPOILERS
- What if what happened at the end of the movie happens on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.???
- What if either Fitz or Simmons fades away and the other lives? OH DEAR WHY DID I SAY THAT OUT LOUD??!?!?!?!?
- NO NO NO MY SCIENCE HUSBAND AND WIFE WILL BE FINE. FINE I SAID.
