When it comes to badass ladies, Arrow brings them in all shapes, sizes, and capabilities. Whether its intellectual badasses like Felicity Smoak or physical badasses like Black Siren and Dinah Drake, aka “Black Canary,” there’s plenty to love about strong females.
We spoke with Arrow stars Katie Cassidy and Juliana Harkavy at San Diego Comic-Con last month, where they teased what we can expect for their characters and the fallout of that finale in Arrow’s upcoming sixth season.
One of the pleasant surprises last season was the return of Black Siren, the villainous Earth-2 doppelganger of Laurel Lance. We got a brief look at her in a villainous aspect. But it sounds like we’re going to get to explore more of what made Black Siren, well, Black Siren.
“I think we’re going to reveal more about Black Siren and who she is, where she comes from, why she is the way she is,” Cassidy said. “And I think there will be some characters that actually sympathize with her, empathize with what she’s gone through. But still have some redeeming qualities.”

Perhaps one of the more satisfying new faces this season came in the form of Dinah Drake, a metahuman armed with a Canary Cry that was initially motivated by revenge. But now that Dinah has grown with Team Arrow, we’re going to see a different Dinah as she steps into the role of Black Canary.
“I think she’s motivated more by justice now,” Harkavy said. “Because she’s part of a team and not on her own anymore. She’s fighting for her new family, as well. So it’s not just a solo mission anymore.”
