Look, we’ll be the first to admit we love Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and after all the love I’ve thrown the Charmed reboot it’d be very hypocritical of me to now say I want nothing to do with another reboot of a show I loved that was actually pretty damn white.
But then again, Charmed doesn’t have Joss Whedon.
20th Century Fox Television has put a new take of the beloved drama in development. Monica Owusu-Breen has been hired to pen the adaptation and serve as showrunner. The show is reported to attempt a more diverse look at a story that actually resonates really well with today’s issues.
Problem? This is still Joss Whedon’s baby, and this is 2018, not 1998. Time and information have given us enough perspective to understand that Joss Whedon is not the man we want telling female stories.
But then again, white men always fail up, so of course, he gets another chance to define what a badass woman is and how she behaves.
Ugh.
Reports aside, no one has been cast and no network is attached as of yet, so this is a long way off, so maybe, just maybe, I can hold onto the hope that if this ever does come to pass, Whedon won’t be involved.
Please.
UPDATE:Monica Owusu-Breen has posted a tweet explaining what the reboot is about, and though we now feel much more relived about where it’s going, plot-wise, the Joss problem has not been dealt with, and that was, and remains, our biggest issue.
