Snagging a ticket to Comic Con is no walk in the park. If you’re one of the masses of fans who couldn’t find a way to squeeze into Hall H this year, check back here all week for our coverage of all of the major news, panels, and trailers from each day of SDCC! Here’s a round-up of Saturday’s greatest hits:
Marvel Studios reveals its Phase 4
On the same day that Avengers: Endgame finally bested Avatar as the highest grossing film of all time, Kevin Feige took to Hall H to lay out the studio’s plans for the future. Among the thrilling news was the official announcements for The Eternals (releasing November 6, 2020), Falcon and the Winter Soldier (which will include Daniel Bruhl as Zemo and premiere on Disney+ in fall 2020) , Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (starring Simu Liu, featuring Tony Leung as the Mandarin, and releasing February 12, 2021), WandaVision (on Disney+ in spring 2021), Loki (also on Disney+ in spring 2021, focusing on the alternate timeline version of the character from Endgame), Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness (a “gothic horror” film that will include Scarlet Witch and release on May 7, 2021), What If….? (on Disney+ in summer 2021), and Hawkeye (which will feature Kate Bishop and make its way to Disney+ in fall 2021).
As if all that wasn’t enough, we learned that Thor 4 will be titled Thor: Love and Thunder, and feature Natalie Portman as a female Thor (about time!). Feige also announced that Black Widow will release on May 1, 2020, and treated the crowd to the first footage of the film, which reportedly features Florence Pugh and takes place in Budapest. Captain Marvel 2, Black Panther 2, Guardians of the Galaxy 3, and MCU versions of the X-Men and the Fantastic Four are in development. Oh yeah, and Mahersala Ali is going to play Blade. In short, Saturday was a great day to be an MCU fan.
Jean-Luc Picard returns
CBS released a new trailer for upcoming series Picard on Saturday. The trailer revealed that Seven of Nine, Data, and Hugh the Borg will return in the series. Picard will take place in the “Kelvin” timeline of the most recent Star Trek films, and focus on Picard coming out of his retirement from Starfleet to face a new threat. Picard will premiere on CBS All Access in 2020.
HBO releases a trailer for ‘Watchmen’
Saturday at Comic Con saw HBO release a muddled, if intriguing, first look into their new Watchmen series. While the series is based on the iconic graphic novel, it will not follow the narrative of the source material and instead imagine new storylines for the familiar characters. Watchmen will premiere on HBO in October 2019.
Arrowverse trailers tease ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’
The Arrowverse panels today revealed trailers for the upcoming seasons of Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl. These seasons will culminate with crossover event Crisis on Infinite Earths, which will serve as the finale for Arrow and a turning point for the remaining Arrowverse shows.
