Can you believe how fast spooky season AKA Halloween has gotten here? We don’t know about you all but 2021 is flying by. Seems like we just gave you all the Halloween movie recommendations and now we’re back again with another list.
We know that some of the COVID-19 restrictions are lifting so a few of you will probably be going out. For those of you still wanting to spend your Halloween night in the safety of your home, we have a few films you can check out while you chill on your couch, bed, or wherever it is you like to get your movie watch on.
Check out our recommendations below!
1. Blood Red Sky
Synopsis: When a group of terrorists hijacks an overnight transatlantic flight, a mysteriously ill woman must unleash a monstrous secret to protect her young son.
Why You Should Watch: We previously talked about Blood Red Sky when we reviewed it but we’re talking about it again because it belongs on this list. This film about a mother who also happens to be a vampire, is not just a monster film. It’s a movie about a mother’s love and the lengths she will go to protect her son. While the movie does have its scary moments, it also had a few that made us cry. This isn’t your average vampire film, and we highly recommend it.
Blood Red Sky is available to stream on Netflix.
2. Hypnotic
Synopsis: Feeling stuck both personally and professionally, Jenn turns to a mysterious hypnotherapist for help, only to find herself caught in a deadly mind game.
Why You Should Watch: The mind is a very fragile thing and Hypnotic proves that. Like the synopsis says, the story deals with a woman who goes to see a hypnotherapist. Hypnosis is creepy okay? Going to see a therapist is already something that makes people feel vulnerable and it forces you to tap into emotions you wouldn’t otherwise. With Hypnotic, it takes that to a whole new level by showing what happens when we let those shields down to allow someone to really investigate our minds. Also, after watching it you will never look at an unknown call the same again.
Hypnotic is available to stream on Netflix.
3. If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power
Synopsis: Featuring music from their fourth studio album produced by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, this evocative film experience stars Halsey as the young and pregnant Queen Lila, who wrestles with the manipulative chokehold of love.
Why You Should Watch: This is another film we previously reviewed. Inspired by Halsey’s fourth album, If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power is an experience like no other. The film is visually stunning and a psychological journey of what it means to be a woman as well as an expectant mother. And in good Halsey fashion, it will have you analyzing every single frame for Easter eggs. If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power has a strong meaning behind it, and this is definitely one to watch.
If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power is available to stream on HBO Max.
4. Night Teeth
Synopsis: A young driver picks up two mysterious women for a night of party hopping. But when his passengers reveal their true nature, he must fight to stay alive.
Why You Should Watch: We never turn down a vampire flick so of course, we were going to check out Night Teeth. This movie is a wild ride that takes the viewer on a trip through various parts of Los Angeles nightlife. It has some amazing LA views and it’s got a little romance in there too because why not.
What’s great about this film is the diversity. Jorge Lendeborg Jr., who is Afro-Latinx is the lead in the film and another reminder that representation matters. He’s a sweetheart and makes you fall in love with him. He really does steal the show in this one with his performance. It’s truly refreshing to see more films like these releasing with people of color because we like watching horror films just as much as anyone else.
Night Teeth is available to stream on Netflix.
5. Séance
Synopsis: New girl in school, Camille Meadows is invited to join a group of girls in a late-night ritual to summon an evil spirit. But before morning one of the girls is dead leaving the others wondering what they may have awakened.
Why You Should Watch: Because who doesn’t love a horror flick that takes place at a creepy old boarding school for girls? This is literally one of the most common tropes in the horror genre. If you enjoy films like The Craft or 5ive Girls, Séance is right up your alley.
Séance is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
6. The Old Ways
Synopsis: A reporter visits her birthplace in Veracruz for a story about tribal culture, only to be kidnapped by locals who believe she’s demonically possessed.
Why You Should Watch: As we told you before, The Old Ways is one of the greatest horror films you will ever watch. We know films that deal with exorcism and demons can be hard to watch (I’m still traumatized by The Exorcist and The Exorcism of Emily Rose) but The Old Ways is about more than that. You can check out our exclusive interview we did with the director and writer of this film to see what we mean. We’ve also got a review of the film as well.
Like Night Teeth, this is another film we enjoyed because of the diversity. The cast is Latinx, and everyone is talented. If you haven’t watched The Old Ways yet, do it ASAP.
The Old Ways is available to stream on Netflix.
7. Till Death
Synopsis: A woman finds herself shackled to her dead spouse as part of a revenge plot. As the rest of the plan unfolds, a desperate battle for survival begins.
Why You Should Watch: Relationships are hard. Marriage is hard. If you’ve ever been in a relationship and found yourself ready to break it off, it might not be so easy to just walk away. That’s the case with Megan Fox’s character Emma in Till Death. When we say this film takes the vows “Till death do us part” to a whole new level, believe it.
There you have it. We think these films should give you just enough to do as you get chocolate wasted.
