They say write about what you know and I couldn’t agree more. People fascinate me and the way they have accomplished the things they have fascinates me. After all, we can learn from everyone.
K-Pop star Jessica Jung is writing about what she knows. The former Girls Generation singer signed a publishing deal with Simon Pulse, an imprint of Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing, for a new duology that is loosely based on her life. It follows Rebecca Kim, as she rises in the K-Pop scene.
“This series embodies everything I love about YA — it’s romantic and juicy, timely, and true, and will speak to anyone who has ever felt like a fish out of water,” Jennifer Ung, a senior editor at Simon Pulse, said about the book. “I can’t wait for all readers, but especially Asian-American teens, to see themselves in Jessica’s creation, Rachel Kim.”
The first book, Shine, is due out in 2020. The yet unnamed sequel is due out in 2021. The news was announced by Entertainment Weekly.
“With Shine, I wanted to tell a big, fun, escapist story that also examines in-depth, behind- the-scenes aspects of the K-pop world,” Jung said in a statement to EW. “My goal was to tell a transparent, candid story — in a way that sometimes fiction does best.”
The book has already been picked up for adaptation by Glasstown Entertainment and Matt Kaplan of ACE Entertainment. ACE Entertainment is behind To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, so we have faith that this adaptation whether it be movie or television, so we have faith it will be a good one.
