It’s a bad day to be a Krypton fan.
Syfy has reportedly canceled the Superman prequel after two seasons.
If you followed any of my reviews this year, you probably already know how devastated I am. I’m actually more shocked than anything. I really thought the show was doing well on Syfy, since it had a lot of good buzz all season.
However, the season 2 finale only drew in an audience of 350,000 same day viewers on Wednesday. And the entire second season only averaged about 408,000 viewers, which is down from the 1.8 million average viewers from last year.
The network has decided to pass on the Lobo spin off as well.
Krypton’s sophomore season ended with major cliff hangers, including baby Jor-El being kidnapped by Brainiac. The two of them were on their way to earth in the final moments of the finale. Elsewhere, Nyssa discovered Darkseid’s omega symbol. And now we’ll never know if it was parademons or thanagarians that were flying over her.
THR reports that Warner Horizon is shopping around the Lobo spin off. While Deadline is reporting that the studio is in conversations continue Krypton on another platform.
Right now, the most likely to continue the beloved DC series are DC Universe or HBO Max. Both outlets are owned by Warner.
If you are subscribed to the DC Universe app, the entire first season is currently available for streaming on there. Season 2 is expected to be available sometime in 2020.
I don’t know if this series will be saved. But I do know that hope is the last thing to die among fandoms. #SaveKrypton began trending on Twitter after the announcement was made.
And I know of another DC show that was canceled after 2 seasons, only to be brought back a few years later on the DC Universe app.
Right now might be a good time to binge the shit out of Krypton on the DC Universe app. And tell all your friends to watch too! Because the truth is, you never know.
