Brandon Larracuente (13 Reasons Why), Emily Tosta (Mayans M.C.), Niko Guardado (The Goldbergs) and newcomer Elle Paris Legaspi have been cast as the four older Buendía siblings in the reboot of Party of Five.
Now, I will be one of the first to admit that I am really not looking forward to the reboot. I mean I want to love the new show, but I have such a connection to the original that I’m hesitant to believe in a new version of the show. But who knows, I could be pleasantly surprised.
The reboot comes from the original Party of Five creators Chris Keyser and Amy Lippman and studio Sony Pictures TV. It follows the five Buendía children as they navigate daily life struggles to survive after their parents are suddenly deported back to Mexico. It is relevant for our time and a story that is important to tell.
Larracuente, Guardado, Tosta and Legaspi will play the children of Gloria and Javier Buendía.
Larracuente plays Emilio Buendía, who is the oldest of the children and the reason that Gloria and Javier came to the US. They wanted to give him a better life. He’s the least responsible of the siblings – has enjoyed a life of freedom and living away from home, that is – until his parents status in America was threatened and he needed to return home.
Tosta plays Lucia Buendía, a straight A student who has always played by the rules. When her parents status is threatened, she is forced to rethink her play by the rules attitude. She quickly becomes rebellious to her role as the older big sister.
Guardado portrays Beto Buendía, the second oldest of the siblings and the responsible one. He quickly steps up when needed and realizes that the head of the family is a role he naturally fits into and doesn’t mind.
Legaspi will star as ten-year-old Valentina Buendía, forced to live out her young life without her mother. It will force her siblings to step up to a role that they may not be ready for.
