We love it when casting gives us even more to look forward to when a show returns. We’ve found that excitement in casting announced today for the second season of The Shannara Chronicles.
Malese Jow, Vanessa Morgan, Gentry White, Caroline Chikezie and Desmond Chiam will join series regulars Austin Butler (Wil), Ivana Baquero (Eretria), Manu Bennett (Allanon), Aaron Jakubenko (Ander) and Marcus Vanco (Bandon) in the second season.
Jow will play Mareth, an unpredictable young woman with magical abilities who is sharp, brash and independent. She’s the character that gets what she wants (and we like that). I mean it’s by any means necessary – so memo to ourselves, watch out for her.
Morgan will portray Lyria, a beautiful and mysterious woman who is romantically linked to Baquero’s Eretria. Mystery scares the fuck out of us – cause again – we don’t know what we’re in for and that is not always a good sign.
Chikezie will portray Queen Tamlin. Yes! We love royalty. She’s the Queen of Leah, the realm full of humans (so we can relate to that – being human and all). She’s cunning and ruthless and manipulative – so don’t screw with her.
White is playing Garet, a bounty hunter. Now we’ve watched enough shows on A&E to know that means watch out – he’s ruthless. He’s known as “The Weapons Master” – which again – who knows what weapon and just how skilled he is. We’ll be watching out.
Chiam will play General Rigam, a former leader of Eventine’s army who’s now guilty for all the havoc that’s happening The Four Lands. So we’re probably dealing with a man who needs to be cut down to size. How exciting. After being in some wars and seeing all of his people killed in War of the Races, he’s got some pretty significant grudges he’s holding on to. Someone better watch out for him.
So with all of these new characters, just what is happening in season 2? Well, glad you asked. TVline described it as – “the re-emergence of magic has the populace of the Four Lands terrified, and an organization called The Crimson is using fear and intimidation to sow discord among the races. Wil, scarred by the loss of Amberle and his separation from Eretria, has turned his back on his magical destiny to become a healer — until Mareth convinces him to rejoin the fight. After reuniting with Eretria, Wil and Mareth seek out Allanon, only to learn that Bandon is on a mission to resurrect a creature of darkest evil: The Warlock Lord.”
