If you are a fan of Shadowhunters, you know that we have a love/hate relationship with the show. Always hoping for something better, that for once the source material will be understood, that we can expect the show to get better. Though the show does great socially, the ratings tell a different story.
And thats what concerns us, because we know that the show deserves better.
We sat down at San Diego Comic Con with Todd, Darren, and Matt – along with other outlets and asked about what’s going on and what we can expect. Especially the finale that we have heard so much about from Alberto, Emeraude, Kat, Matt, Isaiah, and Harry.
“Matt directed the last two episodes and they are probably some of the biggest episodes we’ve done in terms of scope on the show. It’s like a $200 million dollar movie. Mind blowingly huge.” Todd said. We’re interested to see what that’s like, because that sounds big for Shadowhunters. But what about book fans. What will they think? Todd continued, “For book fans if you’ve ready City of Glass, you are going to be mind blowingly happy.”
That’s a big statement. We’re aware that there are changes in adaptations and we’re fine with that. What we’re not okay with is the fact that there has been such a lack of appreciation for the source material. We love the cast, but what we don’t like is that there is talk about how the books and then there is such obvious things that happen that prove that many of the writers have never read beyond the Wiki.
Sorry, but that’s how we feel.
However Darren said, when we talked about the books and how they fit in, “It’s really important to us because the books are so great, that they are infused into everything that we do.”
We want to believe in them. We do. It’s just hard. And it’s been obvious that a majority of show fans are not happy.
“We are honor bound to the books, but we are also committed to telling the best story.” Matt said.
Shadowhunters airs on Freeform.
