Supergirl might’ve established itself on CBS, but it’s its big move to The CW that has everyone talking as the series joins fellow Greg Berlanti superhero dramas Arrow, The Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow. When you think about it the move not only makes sense, but it’s been a long time coming.
“It doesn’t make sense that we weren’t there before,” Melissa Benoist told us during a roundtable interview at SDCC. “It’s so cool to me that Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday is all superhero shows. That’s amazing.”
But as Supergirl flies into its second season in a new home, this year is going to be all about Kara maturing as a hero and learning to balance her life as Supergirl, her work life, and her personal life.
“I do think that season one was her coming out party and her really figuring out where she fit in the world,” Melissa Benoist told us during a roundtable interview at SDCC. “I think she built a solid base for herself, but now it’s time to really mature and come into her own as a woman, as a hero, in her career, in her love life, and as a superhero. Really learning how to juggle it all and find balance.”
With Supergirl’s move to The CW, the network is gearing up for its greatest crossover event yet. And it perhaps is the biggest feat ever attempted on television in that regard. After having filmed a crossover last year with Grant Gustin as The Flash, Benoist is more than excited to delve deeper into this universe.
“The crossover was this energetic, awesome thing that just was so exciting to be a part of,” Benoist said. “I just have no doubt we’re going to have more – ore characters, more fun, and more fighting, and it’s going to be awesome.”
Watch our interview with Benoist below where she discusses Supergirl’s importance in inspiring good, Supergirl’s more vibrant feel, and more.
Supergirl season 2 premieres Monday, Oct. 10 at 8/7c on The CW.
