The Flash shocked audiences last season when Barry made the decision to go back in time to save his mother and change history as we know it, which helped segue into the famous Flashpoint storyline.
And as you’d expect things are going to be different when The Flash kicks off season three.
“Given Flashpoint things are different for her and everyone,” Candice Patton told us during a roundtable interview at SDCC. “Barry has gone back in time. His mom is still alive, which means Barry did not grow up with Joe and Iris and so that dynamic and those relationships are very different.”
But what does that mean for Barry and Iris’ relationship?
“Rest assured Barry and Iris do find each other, they do know each other,” Patton reassured. “The Barry/Iris dynamic is really cute. We’ve shot some really great scenes that I think have been my favorite ever on the show.”
Given this new timeline that presents different versions of these characters we know and love, how can we expect Flashpoint to affect Iris?
“No matter where we find her, whether it’s on Earth-2 or a different timeline or whatever the case may be, Iris is a fixed point for Barry,” Patton said. “She’s kind of true north. So she’s always somewhat the same. The thing about her that’s always Iris West.”
Watch our interview with Patton below where she discusses the West family dynamic, how Flashpoint leaves a mark on the season, and more.
The Flash season two premieres Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 8/7c on The CW.
