Twitter schooled Sen. Marsha Blackburn after her ridiculous comments about Taylor Swift and we’re absolutely living for it. The Republican senator from Tennessee was doing an interview with the conservative outlet Breitbart when she decided to bring up old beef she had with Taylor Swift.
For those that need a reminder, Taylor Swift broke her stance on not keeping silent when it comes to politics in her Miss Americana documentary in 2018. Swift famously wrote according to Variety, “Her voting record in Congress appalls and terrifies me. These are not MY Tennessee values.” She also said, “She gets to be the first female senator in Tennessee, and she’s Trump in a wig. She represents no female interests.”
That got under Blackburn‘s skin and it seems years later she’s still bothered by Swift’s words. So much so that she went on to explain in the Breitbart interview that Swift would be one of the first victims of a socialist or left leaning government. “Taylor Swift would be the first victim of that because when you look at Marxist socialistic societies, they do not allow women to dress or sing or be on stage or to entertain or the type of music she would have. They don’t allow protection of private intellectual property rights.”
She also warned that “leftist totalitarianism” is an imminent threat to American freedom according to Variety. Then she spiraled on a rant about country music and how it’s threatened by being too woke. Seriously, she said, “When I’m talking to my friends who are musicians and entertainers, I say, ‘If we have a socialistic government, if we have Marxism, you are going to be the first ones who will be cut off because the state would have to approve your music.’”
Twitter, per usual, came down on Blackburn and disproved her idiotic comments while schooling her on what the words she used actually mean, and then some! And honestly, every single person calling her out did a glorious job while reminding her that Republican Conservatives are the ones that are coming after the rights of women to have equal pay or even control of their own bodily autonomy.
