Connect 3 searches for their new opening act at a familiar place in the first teaser for Camp Rock 3. It may only be less than a minute of footage from the upcoming movie. Still, there is plenty to glean from it, like Maria Canals-Barrera is back as Connie Torres, Mitchie’s mom. She welcomes Shane (Joe Jonas), Nate (Nick Jonas), and Jason (Kevin Jonas) back to Camp Rock. I’m curious to see why Shane, Nate, and Jason all arrived in separate cars. Is Camp Rock 3 going to have the band members connect…again…where they first connected?
If so, I am so looking forward to seeing that. Also, since Connie’s not joined on stage by Brown Cessario (Daniel Fathers), I wonder if Connie has gotten even more involved at the camp since being a chef in Camp Rock and Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam. Maybe she is Camp Rock’s new director – 16 years after the sequel. Either way, the bigger question looming over Camp Rock 3 is whether or not Demi Lovato will reprise her role as Mitchie Torres.

Lovato is a part of the project as an executive producer, but the only sign of Mitchie in the teaser trailer is her dusty book of songs. The thick layer of dust hints at one fact and one question. One: it’s been a while since the original cast has been at the camp. Two: Why would Mitchie leave her notebook at Camp Rock? For the plot of Camp Rock 3, it seems it’s for Liamani Segura’s Sage to find as she competes to be Connect 3’s opening act. However, it looks like some things never change at Camp Rock because feelings may complicate things.
Just like Shane and Mitchie in the first movie, Malachi Barton’s Fletch brings his guitar to sit by the water with Sage. But her eyes are on the prize, as the first song from the movie, “One Beat Away,” reveals. The trailer also features some familiar dance moves, as well as some unforgettable lines. I’m not really sure how the new generation even knows that Shane Gray once said, “Grab a mic and a hat. Follow me if you can,” but I still smiled from the nostalgia. There’s no denying there will be a lot of that when Camp Rock 3 premieres on Thursday, August 13, on Disney Channel and streams the next day on Disney+. Even just seeing the familiar cabins and stage is enough to tug at my heartstrings.
The movie also stars Camp Rock newcomers Lumi Pollack as Rosie, Sherry Cola as Lark, Hudson Stone as Desi, Casey Trotter as Cliff, Brooklynn Pitts as Callie, and Ava Jean as Madison. Veronica Rodriguez directed Camp Rock 3, while Eydie Faye wrote it. Jamal Sims is the choreographer. Tim Federle executive produces the movie alongside Joe Jonas, Nick Jonas, Kevin Jonas, Lovato, Betsy Sullenger, Spencer Berman, and Gary Marsh. And a special thanks to Alan Sacks for his contribution to the franchise.
