To this day, people still break out their colorful sweatsuits to be the Cheetah Girls for Halloween. Now a whole new generation will get to pick which Cheetah they want to be, as The Cheetah Girls: Next Gen is in development for Disney+.
The Cheetah Girls – Raven-Symoné’s Galleria, Adrienne Bailon’s Chanel, Kiely Williams’s Aqua, and Sabrina Bryan’s Dorinda – debuted in the 2003 Disney Channel Original Movie with the same name. They all returned for the Kenny Ortega-directed, Spain-set sequel, The Cheetah Girls 2 in 2006.
Raven-Symoné did not return for the third and seemingly final, India-set movie, The Cheetah Girls: One World in 2008. Since then, though, there have been plenty of rumors and speculation – some of which were stoked by the original cast – that there will be another Cheetah Girls movie. Nothing became official until Disney+ announced the new movie, The Cheetah Girls: Next Gen, in July 2026.
“The Cheetah Girls has always been about friendship, music, and empowering young people to use their voice,” said Ayo Davis, president, Disney Kids & Family. “That spirit connected deeply with a generation of fans, and it still resonates today. Bringing this dynamic new group of young stars to the franchise allows us to continue that legacy for a new era of kids and families.”
What Is the New Cheetah Girls Movie About?
Disney+ has released a description for The Cheetah Girls: The Next Gen, which reads as follows:
“The story picks up when Cheetah Girls Galleria and Chanel, alongside Galleria’s daughter Faith and her three friends, travel to Africa to volunteer at a wildlife sanctuary. Along the way, these four teen girls test their friendship, find their voice, and discover the true Cheetah spirit as they save the preserve and ultimately take the stage as the new Cheetah Girls.”

There is no teaser trailer or full-length trailer for the movie at this time. Even so, this description reveals a lot, like returning characters and where the Cheetah Girls are going next. It’s also worth noting that the movie is described as “music-driven.”

Who Is Starring in The Cheetah Girls: Next Gen?
First and foremost, Raven-Symoné will reprise her role as Galleria and serve as an executive producer on The Cheetah Girls: Next Gen. She will be joined by co-producer Adrienne Bailon, returning as Chanel. Sabrina Bryan is set to make a special appearance as Dorinda. Sadly, Kiely Williams is not expected to return as Aqua. Plus, One Tree Hill’s Sophia Bush will play the supporting role of Jennifré.
The new generation of Cheetah Girls is led by Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ Leah Sava’ Jeffried as Faith, Galleria’s daughter. Carmen Sanchez (Electric Boom) will play Chanel’s sister Dior, with Kaileen Chang as Ruby, and Sophie Lennon as Brooklyn. Newcomer Kamogelo Ramashala, a local South African actor discovered during Disney’s global open casting call, will play Kendi.
Debra Martin Chase, who executive produced the first three movies that are based on Deborah Gregory’s books, returns as an executive producer on The Cheetah Girls: Next Gen. Co-producer Billie Woodruff directed the movie. Kara Holden, Sarah Watson, and Deborah Swisher penned the script. Disney Kids & Family produced the movie. Kyle Hanagami is The Cheetah Girls: Next Gen’s choreographer.

When Does the Movie Premiere?
The Cheetah Girls: Next Gen doesn’t have a premiere date yet. When it was greenlit in July, the streamer confirmed that the movie would go into production in South Africa in August. Once there is more information about the release date, we will update this section.
