Scream Queens fans rejoice! The cult-favorite FOX show will not only be returning for a second season, but it will also return to SDCC this year for another action packed panel.
Debuting last season on FOX, the first season of Scream Queens focuses focuses on the Kappa Kappa Tau sorority at Wallace University, led by Chanel Oberlin (Emma Roberts), that is threatened by Dean Cathy Munsch (Jamie Lee Curtis). Events reignite a 20-year old murder mystery, with the reemergence of the serial killer dressed as the Red Devil mascot, who begins targeting the sorority members. Scream Queens hosted numerous fan favorite celebrities in its freshman season, from Ariana Grande to Nick Jones to Chad Michael Murray.
Season two of Scream Queens will see the return of Jamie Lee Curtis, Emma Roberts, Lea Michele, Abigail Breslin, Keke Palmer, Billie Lourd, Niecy Nash and Glen Powell, who all will reprise their original characters.
With so many questions to ask about the upcoming second season, it’s hard to narrow it down to just five. But here are some of the most intriguing and important questions we want answered at Comic-Con this year. Beware, spoilers ahead!
1. How Will The New Setting Change the Show?
Season one of Scream Queens dealt with the mysterious Red Devil going on a killing spree throughout Wallace University. The freshman season specifically focused on Kappa Kappa Tau (KKT) and the reign of the Chanel’s. Last season ended with Chanel, Chanel #3 and Chanel #5 being sentenced to life in the mental asylum after Hester framed them as the murderers. The Chanels are enjoying life in the asylum when all of a sudden Chanel is awoken in the middle of the night by a knife-wielding Red Devil. This season of Scream Queens is set in a hospital and overall has a darker tone. In an interview with E! News, Jamie Lee Curtis said “I think it’ll be dark. I think it’s going to be very dark… It’s in a hospital, [there’s] a lot of darkness in hospitals…” So, with the setting change, how will Scream Queens differ from last season? Will the Chanels still be thriving in the asylum? How will the other characters fit in? Will there still be as much comedy in the dark setting?
2. Can Lea Michele’s Character Get ANY Darker?
After a season of speculating who the Red Devil killer is, fans learned that the painfully awkward, Chanel obsessed Hester turned out to be the Red Devil killer that had been dropping bodies since episode one (RIP Deaf Taylor Swift). Having grown up in the asylum with Gigi and Boone, Hester became obsessed with exacting revenge on the people who killed her mother. She faked her scoliosis to distract people from her plans. Scream Queens season one ended with Hester framing the Chanels for the murders and getting away with everything. Now with the change of scenery from the luxurious KKT house to a hospital, Scream Queens will be getting a darker look. How can Hester get any darker? In the same interview with E! News, Lea Michele said, “I don’t know how I can get any darker than I did in season one but hey, whatever Ryan Murphy wants me to do I am totally down with.” Will Hester return with another murder spree? Will she be on the other end of pitch fork this time?
3. How Will The New Characters Fit In?
As season two of Scream Queens begins production, new characters will be joining fan favorites from last season. Jamie Lee Curtis, Emma Roberts, Lea Michele, Abigail Breslin, Keke Palmer, Billie Lourd, Niecy Nash and Glen Powell will all reprise their roles. For this season, John Stamos and Taylor Lautner have signed on as series regulars for the sophomore season. Stamos will be playing Dr. Brock Holt, the hospital’s brilliant, but secretive, head surgeon. Meanwhile Lautner will be playing Dr. Cassidy Cascade, an MD who suffers from a strange medical condition and becomes a suspect when a series of tragic events plagues the institution. So, how will Stamos and Lautner’s new characters fit in? Will they be able to handle Chanel’s insults? And let’s be honest, which characters will they hook up with?
4. Who Else Can We Expect to Join the New Season?
Last season, Scream Queens was the epicenter for guest stars. Ariana Grande, Nick Jones, Diego Boneta, Chad Michael Murray and many others, there’s no telling who will show up in season two. So, who else can we expect to join the new season of Scream Queens? Will we meet more of the Chanels family? Will we FINALLY see Chanel’s mother? Will other members of Ryan Murphy’s past casts make appearances? Dianna Agron as Chanel’s sister? Jessica Lange to spar with Jamie Lee Curtis? Anything could happen.
5. How Will the Chanels Adjust to Hospital Attire?
With season two of Scream Queens being set in a hospital, it’s safe to talk about the immense wardrobe change. The Chanels wardrobe became another character in season one. Between Chanel’s amazing closet inside the KKT house to the pastel wonderland of outfits the Chanels would parade around in, the wardrobe defined the freshman season. Now with season two being set in a hospital, hospital gowns and scrubs will likely be the wardrobe of choice. Lou Eyrich and Lauren Wade’s costume design will have to be redefined and it will be interesting to see. Will the Chanels adjust to their new wardrobe? How will they revamp the outfits? At least we will have Chad Radwell’s amazing suits to keep us at bay, right?
