As one can assume we near the release date for the new DC Universe app, new details about expected content are starting to emerge. One surprising piece of news is that a new live-action Stargirl series is in the works, coming from Geoff Johns and Greg Berlanti.
Stargirl, a.k.a. Courtney Whitmore, was introduced in Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E. in 1999. Upon her introduction, she wore the Star Spangled Kid’s old costume. However, she would come into her own as Stargirl as part of the Justice Society of America, upon being given Starman’s cosmic staff.
Courtney’s name and personality is based off of Johns’s late sister, so this will undoubtedly be a very personal project for him. Also, as the character is a bit younger than the usual staple of television superheroes, the series will likely explore challenges and dynamics that most heroes don’t face. How do you save the world and study for final exams?
Stargirl joins the previously-announced slate of DC Universe shows, including live-action Titans, Doom Patrol, and Swamp Thing. A revival of Young Justice and animated Harley Quinn project have also been announced. Dare I hope that news that Metropolis is moving forward is just around the corner?
