A Discovery of Witches 1×06 might be the best episode of the series as a whole. We’re serious. It was perfect from the first minute to the last. And it was exactly what Bishmont fans have been waiting for. It’s a culmination of the love they share, the bond they share, and the family they have found at each other’s side. The fact that they got married and bound themselves together and forever is just…so woah. We actually get to have this? We actually get to keep this?
As fans, who have watched plenty of TV, we know what it means to be disappointed. Shows don’t pull through, give payout for years of angst, and think that all we want is obstacles left and right. Don’t get us wrong, obstacles are fun. They test the bond between the people who are facing the challenges. But at some point we want to see the couple or ship….happy. Is that too much to ask for? It feels like too much to ask for and that shouldn’t be a thing.

Diana and Matthew getting married was something straight out of a fanfiction. Diana’s dress was on point. The hair was on point, with all those pearls weaved into her hair. Even Matthew’s outfit was on point. Factor in the surroundings being stunning, the support of a father who Matthew had disconnected himself from, and the way that Bishmont looks at each other, and you’ve got a great fanfiction in the making.
Then there was the sex scene. *flails in excitement* It was sooooo good. Correction. It was amazing! It was sexy; is there any other way when it comes to Diana and Matthew? It was intimate; did you see the way they touched each other? And it was funny; did you see that coming because I didn’t? For some reason, hearing them laugh in bed felt both intimate and funny. Because that’s what sex is. It isn’t rainbows and smooth music. It can be funny, someone could get elbowed, and maybe tumble off the bed. It happens.

We can’t talk about episode 6 without talking about Philippe. At first, he was easy to paint. He was a headstrong man with a tough relationship with his son and who was working with his wife Ysabeau to destroy witches. And with the stunt he pulled last episode, where Diana had to defend herself, we thought we knew him. Surprise, surprise, he actually turned out to be way more interesting than anticipated. A huge part of it is due to James Purefoy, who plays Philippe. He’s an amazing actor. Another part of why he’s become more interesting is how he accommodated Diana. He didn’t have to be so forthcoming. But he chose to and left and impression on Matthew, Diana, and us.
Now that things have somewhat settled, Diana and Matthew don’t have to worry about what their families think of their relationship. They are one, and those that love them, know it. Now it’s time to face the rest of the world and how much they hate the thought of Diana and Matthew together. Sucks for them that Bishmont doesn’t need permission from anyone to be together. I don’t make the rules. They do.
