Every day on ATX TV Festival Season 10 is better than the last! After the emotions of day 3, day 4 went for our hearts. Panels for the day were dedicated to diversity, to raising awareness that racism continues to be a very real problem in our society as we review the soundtrack of our favorite shows and discover the world of Oz. We discuss top moments of day 4.
Indigenize the Narrative (The Syndication Project)
This panel. It was one of the highlines on day 4. Native Americans and indigenous people have no opportunities in the industry. They are rejected, whitewashed or eliminated. And, when stories are told about them, they tend to fall into the racist stereotype. Few examples are the exception and this discussion addressed this issue and how we need to improve so that this does not happen again. This panel tried to vindicate the work of Native Americans in the industry and how they are the forgotten ones. This panel was about realizing that the industry has to change.
Television in an Era of Racial Reckoning (ACLU)
I mean… this panel, these stories… they left me speechless. They should place this conversation in every high school and every college. The systematic racism that the Black Community lives in our society is something that is included in all aspects of daily life.
Sometimes, it is about a police officer who orders you to stop or harasses you because of your skin color, other times it is about getting a job because they want to fill the quota of minorities, without taking into account that you are more qualified than other people, without them seeing you, beyond your skin color. I ended up with tears in my eyes and wanting to hit something out of frustration.
But I was grateful to hear these stories, I was grateful to open my eyes to reality. We need to do it. We need to wake up and change things.
TV Mixtape: Original Songs
A conversation about the soundtrack of our favorite shows, remembering the great composers and giving them the space that they so much deserve and that they rarely get. Also, the lack of representation and diversity in this work was commented and they explained to us the process of creating a musical piece that accompanies that scene that we all love.
Oz: A Retrospective
We enter in Oz’s world again, that world full of fantasy, almost like a fairy tale but this time we give it a different, darker twist … and we love it. A panel that surprised us a lot and that we did not know what we had to see.
And these are the top moments from day 4 of ATX TV Festival Season 10. Stay tuned tomorrow to review the top moments from day 5.
