On High School Musical: The Musical: The Series Season 2 Episode 7, “The Field Trip,” the Wildcats and the North High Hornets (What a fitting mascot!) compete in a dance-off. This gives the Wildcats and the Hornet a perfect opportunity to put their own twist on the classic High School Musical 2 song “I Don’t Dance.” That’s an iconic number in that movie that we still talk about today, fourteen years later.
Of course, this is wishful thinking as HSMTMTS hasn’t been about the franchise it’s built on since Season 1 Episode 1, “New Year’s Eve.” Even then, it was about the Wildcats letting go of another HSM production. Now the only real thing that connects the stories is the setting. It’d be cool to pull those ties back together with an epic rendition of “I Don’t Dance.”
Regardless of if that happens or not, there is plenty to be excited to see this week. The mere fact that “The Field Trip” appears to reference the Wildcats infiltrating North High in disguise (according to Ashlyn’s attire) is hilarious. It’s all over a potentially stolen key costume piece, too.
The Wildcats may take this trip with adult supervision, at least temporarily. If this is the case, Miss Jenn will eventually step away from the group to have her very own dace-off with her ex-boyfriend and foe Zack Roy.
Meanwhile, Nini takes a big risk, and the photos suggest that it could be on “The East High Morning News Show.” That is a thing, and we’re only hearing about it now? And it’s hosted by EJ and Gina?! We love all of this a lot already. What about you?

When the Wildcats suspect that North High has stolen a key costume piece, they infiltrate their rival school and end up in a competitive dance-off. Miss Jenn goes face to face and toe to toe with Zack Roy. And an emboldened Nini takes a big risk.
