We can never get enough of the characters from Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, and it looks like we’ll get to see even more of them in a new book set to be released in summer 2023. This as yet untitled book will reportedly follow Nico di Angelo and Will Solace.
Entertainment Weekly broke the story last night. It was quickly confirmed by Riordan, and by his cowriter Mark Oshiro.
The book will follow son of Hades Nico di Angelo and his boyfriend, son of Apollo Will Solace, on a journey to Tartarus. It takes place after the events of the Trials of Apollo series, the most recent series to feature characters from Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
Nico di Angelo was first introduced in The Titan’s Curse, book 3 of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, and has been a fan favourite ever since. In The House of Hades, he was revealed to be gay. This made him the first canonically queer character in the Riordanverse. Nico met his love interest, Will Solace, in The Blood of Olympus, and the two were secondary characters in the Trials of Apollo series.
Fans have long been speculating that the next project in the Percy Jackson universe might focus on “Solangelo,” as the final book in the Trials of Apollo series hinted at a new quest for Nico.
The ship is the second most popular Riordanverse ship on AO3, after Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase, with over 8,000 works. This despite the fact that, to date, the couple has only ever been in the background. We can’t wait to see what Rick Riordan and Mark Oshiro come up with for this iconic couple!
