Doctor Who is starting to wrap up Jodie Whittaker take on the Time Lord and honestly, we’re not ready. In the latest trailer for the Centenary Special, we get to see the beginning of her transformation into the next Doctor and the moment where we get to say goodbye to her forever. (Or until she returns to Doctor Who because you know this show loves a good throwback.) And the episode will be a feature-length episode which will air this Fall.
Talking about throwbacks, some familiar faces will be returning for the Thirteenth Doctor’s goodbye, in particular Tegan Jovanka and Ace. Played by Janet Fielding and Sophie Aldred, they were both companions of the Doctor back in the 80’s. Fielding was on Doctor Who from 1981-84 and Aldred was on the show from 1987-89. Both are beloved characters in their own right.
According to Deadline, Fielding had this to say about their return: “In some ways it was a very different experience to what it was like when I finished recording in 1983, but in many ways it was very similar. It was so lovely to be a working member of the Doctor Who family again.” And Aldred had her own thoughts: “It’s been quite a challenge to have such a big secret to keep, even from my family, and I couldn’t be more thrilled and excited to have been asked back. I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I adored being part of the TARDIS team again.”
Whatever may come next for The Doctor, we treasure the moments we’ve had with Jodie Whittaker and wish her all the best in the world.
