Percy Jackson and the Olympians is so good – and so true to Rick Riordan‘s beloved source material – that a season two renewal should have felt like a foregone conclusion. However, in this era of streaming television, it seems it doesn’t matter how good a show is; even the best shows don’t necessarily get renewal. Every time we fall in love with a show, we’re waiting on the edge of our seat until we hear for certain we’re getting more. Well, Disney+ seems to have taken pity on us, because they put us out of our misery today.
We are getting a second season of this incredible show. We can all take a collective breath now.
Everything about the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series hit just the right notes. Its incredibly true to the source material – which, for fans, is something of a relief since…well, let’s just say “that hasn’t always been the case.” The cast is incredible. Heck, the amount of acting star Walker Scobell (in the titular role) can do with his eyes alone is remarkable. The trio of Percy, Annabeth (Leah Jeffries), and Grover (Aryan Simhadri) are so true to the feel of the characters in the books, watching the show is like curling up inside the pages of the story.
But on top of the main three, you have actors like Virginia Kull and Toby Stephens bringing a depth to Sally and Poseidon’s love that may even exceed what you get in the books. And then you have actors like Jason Mantzoukas as Dionysus, Adam Copeland as Ares, Lin-Manuel Miranda as Hermes, Timothy Omundson as Hephaestus? Not to mention the late, great Lance Reddick as Zeus himself? *chef’s kiss*
There’s so much to say about our joy over the season two renewal of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, but we’re too busy screaming with joy to focus on putting our thoughts in coherent form. Needless to say, we’re excited.
In fact, the only bad thing about this news? The long wait that lays ahead before the second season airs. But we’ll try our best to be patient. We have no doubt Percy Jackson and the Olympians will be worth it.
